On-Line Classes through WI Tech Schools

I took Pharmacology and Nursing Fundamentals online spring semester, History of Nursing over the summer, and currently taking Health Promotions online this fall. Honestly, I find them a little good and a little bad. The good is that there is a lot of flexibility with scheduling and you don't have to waste gas driving to and from campus. From what I found out, the assignments were pretty much the same as the students who took the same courses face to face. Also, the instructors were pretty available for questions and problems and responded to emails quickly. The bad is that you REALLY have to stay on track with the readings and assignments. You don't get to listen to a lecture where you can ask questions if you don't understand something. Basically, the teacher assigns readings and discussion questions and quizzes you on the material and that is your lesson. You have to teach yourself. I personally find I spend more time on my online classes than my face to face ones. Still I enjoy them, obviously or I wouldn't still be taking them! I guess it really depends on what kind of a learner you are. You need to be able to read about something and understand it. If you need to hear about it and ask questions about it in order to understand it, I would not recommend online.

Lakeshore Technical College, except the History of Nursing, that was UW Oshkosh. I also took online Microbiology, General A&P, and Advanced A&P through LTC as well.

All WI techincal colleges have the same curriculum. Sometimes, a tech college will make their online class available to any WI tech student. You can go here http://www.etechcollege.com/ and check out the course offerings.

I have taken several online classes thru GTC which is the school I attend, however, this summer I took a mental health class thru e-tech to get a class ahead for 3rd semester. And boy, am I glad I did it!

I took Pharmacology and Maternal/child through MATC, and management through Western tech college. If you are a visual learner, I'd recommend taking the Health Alterations in class. The lectures and slides made all the difference for me. The others I had no problem taking online. Good luck!

Hi wisme 81! I just saw that you took some classes thru LTC online. I am taking A&P 1 online through moraine park in Beaver Dam and I love it. It works out well since I am home with my kiddos. I was looking at taking micro and adv. A&P next semester. Someone told me not to take them together, but I really want to get them done. Any advice? who were your professors? How were these 2 classes in general? in the a&p class I am taking there are power points to go over and labs to turn in but I really like that he gives out study guides for the exams. What were your labs and exams like for these classes? Thanks so much for any advice you have! I was excited to see someone from my area on here that had taken these online!

How do you like A&P through Moraine Park? Are the exams proctored? What kind of labs are there -- are they all done over the computer?

I need to take it soon, and it's looking like online may be my only option. The two schools nearest me offer very little online.

Hi! I love A&P 1 thru moraine park. Online was definitely the way to go for me. Take it from Bruce Forciea. I guess he teaches at the Moraine park in West Bend. He has powerpoints for all his lectures online and you can listen to a podcast of him going thru the powerpoint if you want to. He says his powerpoints are more important than reading the book because a lot of stuff in the book will be for A&P 2. At first I was trying to read and memorize everything in the book because I thought we needed to and I was freaking out. But now that I know that some stuff is for next semester things are fine. As long as you can do some work each night or close to each night then you will be fine. The labs are all online. You buy a virtual dissector kit which is a computer program on which you can dissect a man and put him back together and such. Some labs are from that and some he puts together and you have to answer questions and study different areas that we are leanrning about. The exams are proctored and he gives you a study guide and they are 50 multiple choice. Overall he is a great professor who seems to really know his stuff and like it. I say go for it! I wish I lived by west bend so I could take ap2 from him. good luck!
