WGU RN-BSN 11/1/11 start

Nursing Students Western Governors

Who's starting 11/1/11. I saw there was a thread for 10/1/11, figured we could start one for November.

Had my intake interview already, my transcripts have not been evaluated yet but am feeling the pressure to pay up by the 25th. Am afraid to pay then find my eval is unacceptable. (UTA and Chamberlain are my back-ups).

Depending on what the transcript eval says, I am hoping to get the BSN within the first term.

NICE !! Can you feel me breathing down your neck ? I am right behind you. ;)

It is way more involved than I thought, but it is definitely very doable.

Specializes in Med/Surg Nurse, Homecare, Visiting Nurse.
I haven't updated on here recently. Been very busy!! Here's my progress so far...

EWB...DONE

ASV1..DONE (Nutrition)

KOT1...Submitted, awaiting results (Organization systems and Quality leadership)

How's everyone else doing?

I finished EWB on Thursday, waiting for my mentor's call. Im taking Nutrition next can you give me any tips and/or advice.:yeah:

Here's my status updated:

I am officially 2.5 months in today. I have finished every class, and am frantically trying to finish my practicum right now. I plan to apply for graduation sometime between December 1-10th and then immediately begin the MSN classes.

So that will put me at 3 months to obtain my BSN! HOORAY!

BTW- the research class SUCKS. There is no getting around it. It is hard, difficult, and I am hating this. I have submitted all the tasks required though, and each one came back with 2 revisions, so overall, I feel glad that I was able to get that much done.

WOW Nicely done. I guess you have broken the record of 3 months and 8 days :). How many hours a week did you put into the program and do you work/have a family? (If you don't mind sharing)

No family. Well, except for my husband and three dogs, but he takes care of them and himself. :)

I spent about 15-20 hours per week. Usually get up at 6 spend an hour or two online, go to work, and then come home and spend 3-4 hours at night. Sometimes I would just wait until the weekend. My employer also allows me to do schoolwork when there is downtime, so I can haul my laptop into work and tether via my iphone! :)

I'm not trying to break any records though- I just want to get it done because a huge raise is waiting on me when I finish! :yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

Just in time for CHRISTMAS! :)

Truly impressive. You deserve a serious vacay but I suspect that you will pounce on your MSN while you are full of steam. Continue to inspire us we need it. Congrats again :)

Great stuff!!

I am having a Rick Perry moment with Community Health Task 1. If I can just get past this freeze and have it click, then I will be on my way. Maybe I should read over the instructions again and listen to the webinar again and this time I will get it.

I have a call with my mentor tomorrow so I can get her to put up the practicum class on taskstream for me.

I do need a serious vacay. I almost walked off my job today.

My husband is taking me to NYC in March, so I am counting off the days.

And thanks for the congrats! :) It's been hard work, but it has been worth it. has been a great experience for me, and I have actually learned from this program. When I was at IWU, I felt like I was just paying for an A. It was awful. AND, it was slow going. I need to do independent study. And group work? Not for me! Why should my grade be dependent on other people?

I NEVER understood that. Do we get to split the tuition between the group ?

I just did a mini STAYcation when I graduated from excelsior. Checked into a nearby hotel suite, ordered room service and an in room massage. I then skipped down to the spa for a mani /pedi. It was amazing, relatively inexpensive, and only took 24 hours :)

The "bio chem" class listed on their website kind of scared me too, but it seems like you can just take a regular chemistry class and not have to take that one?

This is true. A 4-credit Intro to Chemistry class with a lab will satisfy the Biochem requirement. When my transcript eval was done, my Intro to Chem class did not initially transfer. I submitted a transcript appeal with the course syllabus, and within two days it transferred and met the Biochem requirement.

I am unclear as to how works.

First and foremost, it seems there are no group projects.

Second, it appears you have to set up your own community nursing project, somehow someway (not so cool)

Third, I am unclear as to how the writing projects work. Traditionally, there can be many 'research project' papers for a given degree, and finding sources for the paper can be quite tedious, necessitating interlibrary loans and slowing down the research process greatly. My ex-wife took DAYS (like sometimes 10) to get her research citations back at times--and one needs to read these in order to construct the best research paper--she had to use a combination of word, excel, and powerpoint for the actual document, using APA format--how does this process work at WGU?

Lastly, how does this all work? I have listed their requirements below. They offer ALL of those classes? What is the format of those classes? You watch webinars? You buy books? I went to school a very long time ago, and I am used to having a book in my hands, underlining text, writing in the margins, sometimes making question/answer sheets in 3-ring notebooks, then right before class I would review the stuff i had, then go take the exam.

Can you all break the WGU process down for me? Pointers? I dont plan on going anytime soon, perhaps in 12months, but I myself wouldnt mind paying a mentor to help me thru the process when the time comes--just PM me the details and when the time comes......monies could easily be sent instantly via paypal.

and, the requirements from their site, which I am unsure as to whether they offer online, or what (seems like quite a few, but i do have an associate science degree, but without the chem and college algebra--chem was accepted from my highschool as i went right into nursing school, and i took trigonometry and a different school which was 'above' college algebra, which was thus acceptable):

All the classes are online. I believe if one has an ASN only 7 core nursing classes are needed. You are assigned a (free) mentor who you will speak with every week in your first term and then biweekly for the rest. For classes that you do not have credit in (like for me it was some humanities and math courses) you can take an assessment to pass the course, either at a testing site or online via the provided web cam. There are webinars available and TONS of support for the courses. The books are usually online but there may also be hard copies. For the community health, I believe you set up interviews. Someone else may know more about that as I haven't done that course yet.

Papers are papers! Check out PERRLA.com for APA formatting software.
