WGU- Prelicensure 2016- Daytona, Florida

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

Hey,

I'm looking into prelicensure program at Daytona Beach, Florida. I'm a working LPN and I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this program as a LPN and if that helps? I also called today to talk to someone and they were saying that the next cohort starts here October 1st, 2016 and only 10 people will get chosen. Is anyone else on here looking into this program? I'm just trying to see what other experiences have been like so far with the program and with the process of getting into the program. If they give clinical date information within a reasonable time frame and all that. Also they say we have to have all prerequisites done before applying and they do not offer them. I have all my sciences, but I think I'm missing a humanities. I've noticed people who have completed english comp through the school so did they mean the sciences aren't offered? Thanks!

Hi! I am an RN and will start the program in August 2016. I live in Palm Coast very close to you.

Did you end up going in? I am a CNA and I plan on applying for then next cohort. I would love to talk to someone in the program or starting it soon. I know people in the RN-BSN bridge but none in the Prelicensure Program. I am also in florida and would have clinicals in Daytona.[h=1][/h]

I know this is an older thread, but I just wanted to leave a comment anyway. I just graduated from the program in Daytona and I loved it, I would do it all over again! Well.....not really because it's nursing school, but I encourage anyone who isn't able to go to school everyday because of life to absolutely look into the school. Jane who is the clinical instructor for now is amazing and is there for you through thick and thin!!!

As far as the classes, you receive your entire program lab and clinical schedule for the 2 1/2 years which is great so you can work your job or whatever you need around it. You will have a student mentor who you will be in contact with throughout the whole program and will speak with them either once a week or every two weeks, but if you ever have a question, they are there to help! The same can be said for the class mentors who you will also work with. The only frustrating thing that I can think of was the last minute clinical changes that only happened maybe 2 times.

So I say go for it and good luck!

Hey there! I'm extremely interested in the program that you did!! Is there any way I can ask you a few questions?? I want to make sure everything is legit, fully accredited and I wont have a problem getting my license after. I am a full time working MA currently and need a program that's not traditional 8-5 weekdays. That's the only reason I haven't gone back yet.

Thank you!!

Of course, ask away!

When do their semesters start?? I was looking for an academic calendar of some sort so I know when I need to apply by but I can't find it. Also, they let you transfer credits in right?? I have my AA from UCF and completed all nursing prereqs. Also already took and passed the TEAS.

Is it fully accredited?? I've heard horror stories of people completing school and unable to get their license from the state of Florida due to credentials of the school being wrong.

What are the classes like? It's mainly online with clinicals out in Daytona right? What is the clinical schedule like? Do you know ahead of time? Can you do them on weekends?? How many classes do you take at a time??

That's all I can think of at the moment haha thank you again so much!!

They don't have an academic calendar because they usually have different cohorts start at different times throughout the year. I believe they start a cohort evey 3 months, so it is best to speak with an enrollment counselor personally to know when the next start date for Florida will be. Each semester runs for 6 months, there are a total of 5 semesters.

I have a BA and all my credits transferred. I had problems with a stats class being transferred and I petitioned and got it approved. Here is a list of courses you need to have done in order to apply: Page Not Found | Western Governors University if you have an AA i'm sure you have most of them done.

Yes it is, it is regionally accredited and CCNE accredited with Florida Board of Nursing Approval. Accredited Online Universities | Accredited Online Colleges

I think Florida doesn't have that many graduate since it started recently, but seems like they have a 100% NCLEX pass rate in 2016. This shows you their NCLEX pass rate from the Flordia Board of Nursing website: http://floridasnursing.gov/forms/rn-pass-rate-4q-2016.pdf

The theory part of the classes are online and labs and clinicals are in person. Not sure, I am not in the Daytona cohort, but I know they all function similarly.

What is the clinical schedule like? Do you know ahead of time?

Here's a sample clinical schedule: https://www.wgu.edu/wgufiles/sample-clinical-schedule.pdf

When you see the clinical days in purple/green that means that you can be scheduled anytime during those days. They'll probably tell you 2 weeks in advance (which is typical of all nursing programs). When you start the program they give you a calendar schedule of your entire 2.5 years that is tailored to your cohort.

Can you do them on weekends??

You can request it, but not guaranteed because you work the schedule of your preceptor and your preceptor only has you as their student (which is great). Lab days are on the weekends.

How many classes do you take at a time??

The first semester I think I took 5 classes. VERY doable. The first semester does not have any clinicals, that started the second semester but you do have a "boot camp" where you meet everyone in your cohort. This program guide tells you what classes you take fro each semester: https://www.wgu.edu/wgu/prog_guide/BS_NUR_prelicensure.pdf

Hope that helps!

For the Daytona question, we did labs at an EMT school in Orlando, and did our clinicals at Florida Hospital Ormond.

I know that this thread is quite old, but I live in Orlando, FL and am interested in enrolling in a BSN (licensure) program at . Does WGU accept people who don't live in Daytona Beach, FL? Are clinical sessions always done at Florida Hospital Ormond in Daytona Beach? I googled where I live and the hospital, and it is just about a 1.30-hour drive. However, I want to know if students enrol in the Florida area have to actually relocate to Daytona Beach, FL to complete the program. Thank you very much!

I'm in Kissimmee and had this same concern. No one can ever seem to answer this question. I asked the school why they don't have an agreement with any other part of FL and never received an answer.

No issues, I lived in Ocala throughout the whole program. I graduated in 2017, and would've hoped they had agreements all over!
