Nursing Students Western Governors
Published Apr 19, 2012
Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of earning my pre-reqs through CLEPs, DSST, Straighterline.com, and the local community college. Anyone else going through the same stressful yet exciting process? By the way I'm in Orange County, CA.

Because I have most prereqs out of the way WCU said I will probably only be paying around $60-75,000 but that is still a lot for an undergraduate degree.
Sorry the only caught my attention. No way no how would I pay that much money for an RN degree. That is one of the reasons I chose WGU. I like to be smart with how I spend my money.

I don't want to pay that much money for an undergrad degree, especially when I will be paying at least $56k for my masters. I think I have made the choice to go to WGU, I just have to talk to the grad schools I plan on attending and make sure they accept WGU grads. I just don't want to get my BSN and then find out that I can't apply for my dream job you know? I really want to become a CRNA and I have wanted this since high school, that's the only reason I ever considered WCU's outrageous prices. But after reading so many of the threads WGU seems to be waaay better than WCU anyways. The only leg up that WCU has is they are WASC accredited.

jxngirl: If you want to become a CRNA, I would warn you against going to WGU!! CRNA school is EXTREMELY competitive to get into!! You most definitely would need at LEAST a 3.5 GPA to get in to CRNA school and at WGU, you would only receive a "CR" (credit) on your transcripts. These "CR's" equate to only a 3.0GPA. If I were you, I would choose WCU. At least with them you can get straight A's if you want to. I'm starting there in June!! I also want to go the CRNA route and was also considering WGU, but, when I found out that you could only receive (at max) a 3.0GPA.... my decision was made. Hope this helps!

REGIONAL education accreditation is defined by your geographical location. There are multiple regional accreditation bodies established to serve 6 defined geographical areas. WASC serves California, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, Micronesia, Palau, and Northern Marianas Islands, as well as schools for American children in Asia. Hence, WCU's accreditation. WGU is accredited by NCCU which serves Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. WGU's main office is in UT, hence their NCCU accreditation.
