Hello all!
I join the boards today as I'm about a month into my application process into the WGU pre-licensure BSN program and - I AM A NERVOUS WRECK!
My enrollment counselor is the sweetest person ever and does her part to keep be reassured and calm- However, I'm naturally a nervous nellie so I was hoping to get feedback from other applicants, or people who are currently in the program.
Here is my situation at the moment:
EDUCATION:
BS in Physiological Science from UCLA 2.87 GPA from 2009
Masters of Science in Healthcare Management form Champlian COllege (ONLINE) 3.82 GPA from 2014
CERTIFICATIONS:
Currently both a Certified Case Manager and Chronic Care Professional
WORK EXP:
I've been working in the healthcare industry officially since 2010 in different aspects.
I am currently a case manager for a prominent health plan in San Diego, CA since November 2014. However I have NO formal nursing experiences either as a CNA or LVN....
I've submitted all my transcripts and got my initial eval back this Monday.
My Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology are "Under Review" and I have no idea when I'll hear back.... crossing my fingers i don't have to retake them!!
I took both anatomy and Physiology from UCLA in 2007 and 2008 respectively. My Microbiology is from community college from 2010, so not sure why they went under review.... ANYONE HAVE ANY INPUT AS TO THE CHANCES OF THESE GETTING WAIVED AS MET??
I have NOT taken the TEAS test, but took a practice exam without studying/reviewing and score a 72% --- I plan to study for several weeks, take another practice test and assess my progress. I'd like to have at least an 85% to submit w/ my application.
I know the program is suppperrrr competitive, but I think I'm a reasonably competitive applicant... maybe? LOL
Any and all advice would be appreciated
THANKS :)

California was too competitive for me. Lots of applicants. So I tried for Texas and got accepted into a cohort here. Best of luck!
Unfortunately CA is just so over populated that this seems to be an issue all through out the state...
I really have to stay in CA though since my hubby just started his own apprenticeship with a Union and the contract is for 5 years !!
Really hoping i can get into WGUs program, as the online portion would allow me to continue to work for at least the first 6 months of the program.
Really hoping some others can provide some advice or support with anxiety lol

Hi I am currently applying to the WGU Pre-Licensure in SoCal for there cohort in Oct. Anyone else is applying towards that cohort? I am so nervous about this program because it is all online based. I do not live in SoCal. I am from the Central Valley so if I was to get accept it into the program I'll have to relocated. I know that in LA the living expensive is way more than here in the Central Valley. Can anyone please tell me where in LA is the decent, safe, and affordable area to live in?
Thank You.

Hi
I am currently an RN-MSN student at WGU, just completed the BSN portion and will get my degree next week and will continue working toward MSN. I know you're coming in through a different path. I can't speak to pre-licensure, but I can tell you that my A&P was over 10 years old and was accepted for transfer. I had to take micro and biochem since I didn't have that done. Don't be afraid to appeal any course that doesn't get accepted, just be sure to have the documentation to make your case (like a syllabus or the course description in the school's catalog or info on the texts for the course. Sometimes they just need to see that the course is compatible - but since it's not always obvious, it helps tham to decide. I appealed 2 courses and they were accepted. Micro might need to be more current, I'm not sure.
One thing- they will not transfer ANY courses once you're officially enrolled so you'll need to button that up beforehand.
For me this school has been a Godsend. I've taken online courses at other schools but WGU's program is far more flexible than others. Mentors are great and are there to support you and help you stay on track. I think with your experience in the field you are an excellent candidate. Good Luck!

Hi.. would you be able to talk to me about the CCP certification? Thank you
Hi Tee_byrd
Yes the Chronic Care Professional certification has been a great learning experience, and tool to use during my career as a case manager. It is completed through the Health Sciences Institute. You pay for both the book, as well as the test to complete for certificaiton. I personally studied ONLY from their book for about 3 months before taking the test and passed on the first attempt. The certificaiton focuses on behavioral ideaologies related to Motivaltional Interviewing and behavioral changes. There is also significant informaiton about the top 5 chronic diseases in America, which is very informative. The whole thing was a bit pricey, but well worth the knowledge.
