    Update on my appeal

I did talk to my admit counselor and she wasn't thrilled about the appeal and explained that it will definitely put my start date off until May 1st. I was very insistent that I wanted to try to get it appealed by March 22nd so I could start April 1. I told her that I would have the paperwork emailed so that it could be evaluated as early as Monday morning. This will give them 2 weeks to evaluate the credit again. She finally agreed to my plan. If that doesn't happen then I will let it go and take the class. I don't want to wait until May to start because I have already decreased my work hours. She did tell me that my Health Promotion in the Community Class (upper level nursing class) has about a 50% chance of being credited for the Issues in Behavior Science. But appeals for the health assessment class are usually never approved. She said that its just a test, not a project. I'll let you know my results.

Thanks for the information. When you say, "it's not easy"....what does that mean exactly?
I just meant the program isn't so easy that anyone can pass with little or no effort. There are papers and tests that you must get through to show you're competent in the material.

I dug up my transcript review to see why no statistics and recalled I had taken a foundations of math course when working on my ADN and they counted that for their QMC1 course.

Have you looked at other programs and compared how long it will take, what courses you will need, and when you can start? Unless you find another school with continuous enrollment -- like WGU -- you'll have to wait until Summer at the earliest, and more likely Fall, as many nursing school cohorts don't start in the Summer term.

What other Gen Ed requirements do you need? Have you checked CLEP/DSST exams for credit? You can just take a DSST Lifespan Development Psych class and test out of the Growth and Development requirement. BUT, you'll have to take that test BEFORE you enroll. WGU will not accept any transfer/test credit after you're enrolled into the program.

Good luck. I'm doing WGU, almost finished with it, and have already been provisionally accepted into an FNP program at my local university. I don't regret going with WGU one bit.

I did look at other schools again after my credits were evaluated and it looks like WGU will be the best fit for me. I'm hoping that my appeal will get approved and I can start on April 1. BTW- my husband is waiting on his credit eval from WGU for a Sales and Marketing degree. We'll be doing it together!

My husband and I are doing the program together as well! We're both RNs, he's finishing up the BSN and will be moving onto the MSN, and I just finished the BSN and will start the MSN in June.

It would be better to be taking the same classes, but he makes more money than nurses and he would make a terrible nurse! At least we'll be studying together.

Can you explain what you mean about Human growth and Development class to test out? How would you do that?

I took the DSST/DANTES exam entitled "Lifespan Development Psychology" and WGU applied it to the Human Growth and Development requirement. You can find out more info on DSST exams at http://getcollegecredit.com/. But, if you're going to use these for credit, you have to take DSST/CLEP exams before you enroll at WGU.

WGU denied my appeal. I'm disappointed but I paid my tuition and start 4/1/13. This leaves me with 5 prerequisites and the nursing classes. I thought having an ADN degree in Applied Science would mean that I had most of the prerequisites done

It's been my experience that people with AAS degrees usually have MORE prerequisites to do. Good luck with your start!

I was disappointed when my request was denied as well, but in the end I actually found it worthwhile and was still able to complete in my target time...I bet you will as well. Eye on the prize now! Congratulations!

No worries, I started 2/13 RN-MSN and am taking the same classes you are required to take. Do the COS and Powerpoints for stats and you will be fine. I am working on Health Assessments right now and hope to pass the test next week. I thought about appealing but chose to start as early as I have not heard of anyone getting ahead from a review. With stats if you put in 25hrs/week you should be able to pass the class in about 3wks and same for health assessments, maybe sooner. Good Luck
