Can anyone tell me about Western Governor's University? I understand that it is affordable and accredited. Does anyone take courses from them? What is it like? Any graduates?

I heard that they started a pre-licensure RN program in 2009 I wonder how that's going.

I'm interested in the RN-BSN portion. Just looking for as much information as I can get. I graduate from my ADN program in May 2010 and want to continue my education and get a BSN as quick as I can. :nurse:

Hello

You are correct that has a pre-licensure program. I am one of the faculty in that program and we are so excited about this new opportunity. We currently have the program in CA and TX. The upcoming states are hopefully, UT, FL and NJ. The tuition is very reasonable for a 6 month period of time. If you are truly devoted to getting your BSN you could finish in 9-12 months. I did have one student who finished in 6 months. The completion time depends on the nurse. We also have a great RN-MSN program.

If you have any additional questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Any chances of coming to the Bay Area in CA? I really liked the format of the program, but unfortunately I don't live in the LA area for the clinicals and was discouraged applying since I would be commuting half and half.

Wow thanks for the quick reply! Yeah I don't want to spend 2 years at State and have to go to clinicals all over again to get my BSN. I'm going to give them a call.

Hi I just spoke to an advisor today from A coworker told me about the affordibility of the program and I am excited to hear that I could possible have my BSN in one year (I already have a BS in business so transferring credits etc) I am looking for more information or comments from other nurses who are doing this program before I commit to it:confused:.....thanks for any info or encouragement!:nurse:

I too am looking into for my BSN. I will finish my ASN in December and want to get started right away while I'm still in the school mode. I have taken online classes in the past so that is not my concern. My concern is: they charge a flat fee for a 6 month semester. Do they pound you with tons of work so it will take you longer to complete? or is their curriculum comparable to other online programs, and you get out what you put in. I would like to talk with a advisor but not sure if they are interested in talking with you until you are a official RN, which won't happen for me until Jan 2010. I would love to be enrolled in a program and ready to start as soon as I pass my boards. There are so many online programs out there so there is a lot of research to be done. I would love to hear from other graduates on their experiences with the program they did.

Thanks

I would email them with your contact info and an advisor will contact you. There is a page on their website for you to provide contact info. Also you can answer many of your initial questions by looking on their website, http://www.wgu.edu.

I finish my ADN program in 2 weeks and just spoke with an addmissions advisor yesterday, so they will speak with you even if you haven't graduated. Just have to be a RN before applying to their program.

You have to be an RN for their RN to BSN program. You also have the choice to enter their prelicensure BSN program. So far, the prelicensure program is up and running in CA and TX with more states slated for startup in the future. An advisor can explain all of this if you have any questions after looking on the website.

they have posted a new pdf that describes in detail their program. BSN with RN License | Online RN Degree | Online Nursing School

Scroll down to program details and then click on View PDF Program Guide and you will download the 17 page BS Nur Prelicensure PDF

I'm a current student at in their MBA- Healthcare Mgmt program. It's a good school and you are assigned a mentor that is with you every step of the way. I have my BS in General Business from Excelsior. I'm changing careers and looking at starting Excelsior's ADN program within the next few months. Both schools are great and I don't regret getting a degree through either institution. They also have excellent reputations with regards to their online nursing programs. As far as ADN-MSN programs, if you want to do something more clinical (FNP or Nurse Midwife) I would look at Frontier School of Nursing in Kentucky, or University of North Dakota. Frontier offers the FNP, Women's Nurse Practitioner, and Nurse Midwife options ONLINE with 2 visits to their campus the entire program. All of your clinicals are done within your community. I spoke to one of their advisors and she was extremely friendly and helpful. University of North Dakota offers a program in Advanced Public Health Nursing. They charge only their state rate for tuition (I didn't check tuition rates for Frontier). I think both schools would be viable options if you are wanting something more clinical as opposed to administrative in a nursing RN-MSN program. I hope this info was helpful.
