Starting WGU RN-BSN

Nursing Students Western Governors

Tentatively accepted to the RN-BSN through 's online program. Lalalalala yay for me! Nervous as hell about going back to school....but its gotta be done!

Anyone have any experience with WGU? Negative or positive?

I have combed through this thread and have not found the answer to this question:

Has anyone who graduated from with a BSN ever transferred to a traditional college with the expectation to complete a MSN?

I would really like to know the answer to this question. I want to eventually get my masters. I know I can keep going to WGU to get a masters, but I don't want to get an online masters degree.

In another thread, someone said they were accepted into a few different CRNA programs after obtaining their BSN through .

I know several people who have been accepted into MSN programs elsewhere after getting their BSN through WGU. A lot depends on what type of MSN program you're interested in, and what their prerequisites are, and how competitive they are. WGU's pass/fail grading system means that their transcripts will translate to a 3.0 GPA, which might be more difficult for a highly competitive MSN program.

I'd really like to hear if anyone has gotten into a NP Master's program with a BSN?

I received my ADN at a local community college, finished my BSN with last year & have been accepted & will start IWU's APRN program in April.

I started the RN-BSN program in August of last year and received my BSN at the end of January. I worked hard and finished 35 credits in under 6 months so it's doable! Depends on how much time you have to put into it. I did take biochem and was nervous like you. For that reason I requested it be my first class. I actually enjoyed it very much and learned a lot! The thinkwell lectures were created for someone like me (short attention span for things that don't interest me). The projects were challenging and fun at the same time. I didn't have statistics so I can't comment on that.

Congratulations on your choice and good luck on your journey. I think your timeline is completely doable.

Thanks RN*mommy, I appreciate the feedback. I asked my mentor whether or not she thought it was doable, and she basically refused to answer the question. Do you know how long they had it projected for you to finish? They have me projected at 3 terms, taking about 12 CUs each term. I am really hoping to finish as soon as possible. Going to be tough with a husband, two little ones, and a full time job, but I'm hoping I can do it! Thanks again!

Kfwinslow, I honestly love my mentor...but she never seemed really positive with me finishing in a term. Even when I was completing 3 classes a month she would mention holding my practicum until the next term. That said she also never gave me any issues adding classes to my line up either. I'm guessing since they can't see into our home lives their role is mainly to support and not give false hope or unrealistic expectations? I know in the beginning they give you the 3 classes. As I got near to finishing the classes I'd ask for more. If I knew I was going to be submitting a task over a weekend and would want to start on the next one...I'd email my mentor and tell her. I think once you get to know your mentor better and he or she gets a better idea of how you operate things fall into place. I'm now on biweekly calls with my mentor and much of the 30 minute phone call is talking about our lives...we've really bonded.

I think even at the point I submitted my final paper my graduation date was listed as January 2014. Obviously that wasn't the case, so don't put too much thought into what that says. Once you get your pattern down you'll be able to figure out where you stand easy enough.

I hear you about family and work commitments. I don't work full time, but I've got the husband and 4 kids! My advice is do something everyday, especially in the beginning when you're learning the ropes. Even an hour helps. I work 2nd shift and even getting home after midnight and tired I'd try to do something for an hour. Maybe not work on my paper, but reading message boards or watching class specific webinars. As I progressed I was able to take nights off but really tried not to with the fear I'd lose my groove.

Can you give me information about the Thinkwell lectures? What are these? Can you give me a link? Thanks!

Yes. I've been accepted into three post MSN programs after attending .

The Thinkwell lectures are associated with the biochem class. I'm not sure you can access them without being enrolled in the class..? Each section of the biochem class has specific lectures associated with them. The lectures are shockingly interesting and the host is funny and entertaining. They are great because each lecture is only like 10-15 minutes long.
