Students Western Governors

Published

Hello everyone! I hope that this thread can be used for anyone currently in the MSN leadership or education program or anyone interested in .

I am getting my MSN in education. I started September 2013 and will be done this fall 2014.

My most challenging course has been the research proposal class. I am finally done with that and currently working on my capstone.

Any questions or concerns in regards to the MSN post them here for help.

When did you start the MSN?

So since you are doing the research based capstone, you ended up in the 'old' program even starting 9/13? They changed the capstone after that to be based on the field experiences - and I am still waiting to see how those 'field experiences' and 'new, non IRB based capstone' would work.. No one on the facebook groups appears to have done either yet although getting close.

Would love to know if you are in the 'new' program and had to do them. :)

It would be interesting to know what the difference is.

It's pretty much all revamped - the classes don't even look to be remotely the same and the IRB necessity is gone, since it's based on the 'practicum/field experience(s)'. Still waiting before I decide to go MSN or not to see what that entails, as I already know it requires an MSN preceptor and we don't have too many of those out here. :)

The MSN in Education requiers the perceptor with MSN? or both MSNs?

Im in the leadership concentration and I didnt hear anything about perceptor (or is that only for capstone ) but I just started so maybe thats why

It's for both but it would be at the end. You should have a field experience class in your COS, but not yet if you have just started - that will be near the end, for sure. :) And yes, only for that class, so far as I know. Details are kinda sketchy - would love to hear more if someone gets to that point in the 'new' program. My BSN mentor wasn't sure either.

Specializes in OB, GYN, PEDS, Urgent Care.

I am currently in the BSN program, and will be switching to the MSN program once I finish my last class of the semester (which is this one) Thank God!!! My concern in the beginning was that I would not receive my BSN degree upon completing those requirements until the end of both programs. My current mentor stated that I would indeed receive my degree once I am finished the BSN portion, and thus decided to continue with the program for the Master's. I am not aware of the preceptor for the leadership MSN. Can anyone further elaborate if possible? I will say I am content with my progress in the program. I began the RN-BSN journey January 1, and am in my last class of the semester. Good luck to everyone with their studies :)

That's not true. For those in the RN-MSN programs, they receive their BSN as soon as they complete the 120 CU's required for the BSN. Then they continue on to the MSN.

Congrats on being almost done!

I have been shopping for a MSN program for years. I started one 10 years ago, then adopted a child and stopped. Ready to start again but cannot spend a ton and need a timely completion. I do intend to work hard and eager to learn. What made you pick this program? Would you pick it again? TIA
