Interested in doing the RN to BSN program

Nursing Students Western Governors

I'm new to this topic and am a but confused. I am interested in doing the RN to BSN program. I also have my BA & am wondering how many credits will transfer, thus hopefully taking me less time to complete the program. Basically I wanna know which program will transfer the most existing credits. I was gonna do this program thru chamberlain a few years ago since they were taking the most credits but I ended up not doing it then. I had never heard of this "competency" program before. I think chamberlain had me being able to get my BSN in a year. What's the most likely amount of time it takes most people thru this program instead? Thanks for any info

Based on anecdotes, most people complete the program in about two six-month terms. It took me 10 months to complete the program while working full time on the night shift. Your mileage may vary.

Your best bet is to contact an admissions councilor to see how many credits you will have. As Commuter said, your experience will vary. I work part time with 2 very busy school age kids, and should be finished my 40 credits in May, making it 1 year for me.

I just got my transcript review back from today (hoping to start April 1!) I have a BA in Art with K-12 teaching certification (from 1994!) and additional community college classes for medical transcription, then my ADN RN. My review put me as needing 34 credits to complete. I had taken Statistics, but it was more than 5 years go, so didn't transfer, and had taken Nutrition before too, but it was non-transferrable. They also didn't transfer my "Biomolecular Processes" for Biochemistry, but my enrollment counselor is appealing that for me as "biochemistry" is in the course description from the college catalog where I took it, but not the title, so if that is successful, that would get me down to 31. I am planning to put my nose to the grindstone and try to get through in one term.

I know you're only a couple months in, but do you think you will be able to finish in 6 months? Did you tell your student mentor you want to complete in one term? Which classes are you taking first, and do you think those classes were a good choice to take first? I will be beginning soon and would love some advice! Thanks!

I am 5 weeks in and have completed 2 classes/6 credits (Care of the Older Adult and Biochemistry), hope to have Statitics and Probability (3 credits) done in the next week or so. I have Health Assessment after Stats. Those four classes were assigned as my first term. For my second term I am up for Nutrition (3 cred), Professional Roles & Values (3 cred), Organizational Systems & Quality Leadership (3 cred), and Community Health & Population Nursing (3 cred). For my third term I have Evidence Based Practice & Applied Nursing Research (3 cred), Information Management & Application of Technology (3 cred), Community Based Health & Population-Focused Nursing Experience (2 cred) and Leadership & Profressional Image (2 cred)

I am not certain how they determine the order of your classes, there seems to be a fairly wide variation based on a FB group I am in, I just went with what I was assigned and didn't make any special requests. I didn't tell my student mentor specifically that I wanted to get through in 6 months, but she has not held me back in any way, and is encouraging my acceleration. I'm still not entirely sure I will get through in 6 months, might have 4 credits or so leftover, as the last few classes seem to be 2-credit ones.

I did 50 in well under a term so it CAN be done but be prepared to give up ANY amount of social life, weekends, etc.. :p

FluffyBike, thank you for taking the time to write out your schedule. That was kind of you. It's great your mentor is encouraging your acceleration! I will not tell mine that I want to finish in six months. Everyone has advised against that and I'm glad they told me!
