I am 24 days into WGU's RN-MSN program and I love it,

and here's what I have done/learned. I have finished THREE classes and have 9 competency units/credits in 3 weeks! If you have prior experience/knowledge you can fly through. Some classes have "outside vendor" components to the course and they aren't always compatible with whatever computer OS or browser you have. For example, my statistics lab doesn't work on my mac but does on my PC. You need to be aware of this!! Luckily I have 2 laptops and can switch when I need to. MY mentor is awesome!! You really want someone to whine to. The course mentors are awesome!! They know the course material and can answer questions. I recently finished the course called Health Assessment and the assessment for this course is the NLN Health assessment test. I've been a nurse for 22 yrs and have a BS in biology. This is a tough class. There was info in that course that I feel was geared for a nurse practitioner, things I was never taught, never heard of, and would never do in nursing practice unless I were a NP. So this course as a BSN level course is going to be very hard for nurses with an ADN and little experience. I relayed this to my mentor and said that WGU could contact me and I would happily give examples. My next course is statistics, then community and population health. I should finish the BSN component and receive my BSN in less then 6 months. Then onto the MSN courses. Feel free to ask questions if you are on the fence about WGU!

This is terrible. I don't think I want to go to a school that is doing this to their students!

I wouldn't say it's terrible. They adjusted their curriculum as all schools do, and unfortunately the adjustment didn't work. It sounds like they are already taking measures to fix the issue and not having students sign up for the class until they do. I do feel bad for the students who are near completion of the degree, however it's my understanding this update just started January 1st so students who started with the change are in term until June 30th, so unless they were geared up to finish their BSN in 4 months there are most likely other courses they can take until this one is fixed. It sounds like the mentors are aware of the problem and helping their students avoid the class if possible.

RN*mommy, which class are you talking about?

skoolrn had better info than I did regarding the classes which are being reworked. Here's what she posted above...

Hi RN*mommy!

Yes, the three "U" classes and their corresponding "labs" that I need are being tweaked but I don't know how yet! My mentor said that they (the mentors) were told NOT to enroll anyone into those classes until further notice. They are: UBC2/UBP2(Evidence Based practice), UDC2/UDP2(Adv Prof Roles&values), UCC2/UCP2(Adv info mgment and app of Tech). In the meantime, I have to finish Stats, Biochem, Comm and Pop Health and the Practicum so plenty to keep me busy for now. Hope to be done in August. Then on to the MSN portion of my program. :)

Hi travelovingnurse - I also started 3/1 and am very happy with so far. I had also worked through most of the Informatics course before my mentor suggested I work on Health Assessment while they fixed Informatics. That part was a bit frustrating, but WGU IS responding to the students and trying to make the test better (and they're doing it very quickly.)

So far, I'm pretty happy I've chosen WGU!

How are you all taking the classes that you want? My mentor says that I have to do it in a certain order, starting with Health Assessment, as in I had no option? I feel like Im missing something lol! I started on a prereq of Humanities about 30% of the way and she told me I had to take Health Assessment. Other than that, I love it!

Hey skoolrn, and whovever else started in Feb/March/April 2013, can we get an update on your progress at this point? I am looking at as one of several options, and I may try to start in June. I am enjoying hearing success stories and feedback from the people who are doing the BSN program right now, especially those who are advancing rapidly. I would really love to be able to start in June and finish in 6-7 months. Thanks everybody!

Do you have several classes open in your COS? If so, you can work on any of them, at any time.

What is COS? Not familiar with that Acronym. thanks!

I am taking Applied Statistics now and have struggled with it. Its all concepts, no math. If I pass my final on Saturday I will have completed a term (12 credits) in about 6 weeks. My advice to people is if you can take stats elsewhere and transfer it in DO IT. I think this course is difficult and I have had stats before, in the 1980's. My next class is Community and Population Health, yay, nursing!

Sorry, I am taking also right now before enrollment date with I was so afraid I wouldn't pass it. How is it concepts without math?

The focus is statistical theory.... There are no math problems to do. The theory is hard for me.
