Finished my MSN this morning - ask me anything!

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

I completed the final oral defense for my MSN through this morning. I also have my BSN from WGU.

Completed RN-to-BSN in one, six month term, and the MSN in 11 months and five days (not that I'm counting!)

Two degrees for under $10K out of pocket, including books. (I received a total of $2K in scholarships)

So----- I'm going to put myself out there and if you would like info about either program from a recent grad -hit me up!

To Pooh1028:

I applied last December (2011) and thought I would be ready to start right away but sadly wasn't. I had to complete 2 math classes, an english class, biochemistry, and pharm. I was already a student at Ivy Tech so I signed up quickly for english and finite math and got those done in 8 weeks and then I started statistics through straighterline. I could not find a pharm or biochem class in time. I took my TEAS a couple of weeks ago and I hope to find out in 3 weeks if I am accepted for August cohort. It was a lot of work considering I work fulltime but I guess I had better get use to it. If you take 8 week courses you could get a lot of them done quickly. Check Ivy Tech out! There online classes are great!

What are your specific experiences with your Capstone project? Any advise or suggestions for potential MSN students?Any info would be helpful.

What type of projects/papers are required in the MSN program at ?

Congrats! That is so exciting and encouraging to hear. is at the top of my list to apply for the BSN Prelicensure program. I am also considering WGU for masters in a couple of years :?

My Capstone project is based on my work setting. It is much easier to do a project based on experience. I am doing a qualitative study. It is doable. It didn't take me too long to reach this far. I started October 1, 2011 with only a ADN degree. I got my BSN through while pursuing my MSN. I am almost done. Thank God!

To maryCarny,

You are an inspiration. I have been an ADN nurse for 20+ years & have had some resentment toward the idea of pretty much "having to" return to school to maintain job security. I am working in a teaching hospital & wish they would offer a significant discount to their employees furthering their education, but since that is not the case- I have been shopping for the right program for me. I think I have settled on . I appreciate the information you have shared here, as well as your enthusiasm.

I have been reading all your postings and I am glad that I am already scheduled to start my MSN (Education) in January 2013. From what I hear, is ok. Is anyone starting the MSN (Education) in January 2013? I would love to have a study pal. Please let me know.

Hi minakay.. My target start date is also January 2013 for MSN Education. I got my BSN from also. So maybe we'll be classmates :) We should start a thread for this :)

I start RN to MSN-Ed 1/1/13 also! Can't wait!
