Course changes at WGU starting 1/1/13?

Does anyone know the changes that are being made to the courses starting 1/1/13? I've been told there won't be any course additions, but there will be changes made to the courses themselves.

featherzRN-

a previous poster said Nutrition and Biochem are required to be taken at . Is this true? I did Nutrition with my ADN....they wouldn't make you re-take it would they?

What are the 15 classes? And what had you taken already? I just finished WGU and I had a ton of classes to take, but they went very quickly..

I am not sure, but I think they do require nutrition as part of the 'core' courses, although I have heard of a few getting out of it.. and biochem has been waived for a few.. But honestly, if you know the material, just test out quickly. I did nutrition and biochem each in less than a week, so those two classes really don't add much to the time spent. I had to retake micro (one week), physiology (3 days) and sociology ( four days). So if you have taken it, should not be a problem to just accelerate out. :)

Nutrition has to be less than 5 years old and to get out of taking Biochem, you have to have had a class called "Biochemistry" on your transcript. Other chemistries don't count. Hope that helps!

I just don't see the point of retaking a class, honestly. I took Soc, Nutrition, micro, health assessment.... All this stuff already. This is bringing me down and really lowering my opinion. I will be speaking to my enrollment counselor tomorrow-hopefully she will tell me classes and hopefully it will be good news.

PS- what do you mean by accelerate out? Thanks :)

If you know the material, you just write the paper or take the final exam. So it should not take you long to do those classes if you have had them already. That's how you 'accelerate out'. :) But it's up to you - curriculums do change the longer you wait. I don't really like the new MSN curriculum at so I myself am not taking that one just yet.

They accepted my nutrition class!

They accepted my nutrition class!

Woohoo!! Now that's a rare thing so congrats!! :)

just my luck, talked to my enrollment counselor and they still have not reviewed my transcripts, so still clueless as what they will accept and what they will require. i'm supposed to start another program in 14 days, and wanted to compare to it so to make my decision. oiyvay!

^^delete! i just got an email re: transcript eval. Looks like they took everything from my previous Bachelors and ADN. Nutrition was not on the list? But they took Micro and Soc, etc. Phew! Big sigh of relief! I'll call my enrollment counselor tomorrow and get the low down. Looks like I will be starting November 1st if the transcripts look this good :) Wow, I can't believe we might be starting and finishing this puppy!

Just kidding, I assumed it transferred bec it was not listed as "Not Met" on the eval, but it's not on the list at all anymore for courses available for transfer.

Nutrition is considered one of the core nursing classes and will not be on that evaluation. You'll need to address that separately. :)

I'm bit sure they'll take nutrition. It was done in 2008 so it's 2 months outside the 5 yr deadline, but I'll try to appeal if I need to.

Anyone know what LeadershipExperience and Portfolio will be like?
