Alternative to Straighterline (prelicensure program)

Nursing Students Western Governors

I did straighterline to apply for the prelicensure program, but I also utilized Edukan to do my Anatomy and Physiology with Lab. I would advise prospective prelicensure students to check out Edukan (Edukan.org) they basically partner you up with a community college in Kansas and do their online classes. The entire class and lab was online. Also, it is better than straighterline because the community college is regionally accredited so the credits should transfer to any regionally accredited school. The transcript that was sent to was from the community college and it didn't say online anywhere. Also from what I remember it was 150$ per credit. It is a lot more than Straighterline, but it is structured and organized much better than Straighterline.

Hopefull that helps those prospective students applying for the prelicensure program! Both my Straighterline and Edukan transferred to WGU.

Wow, this is interesting! I'm enrolled in my local CC right now but was planning on taking A&P through Straighterline in the next few months to start my RN program mid-late 2017. Thanks for sharing this information! Did you only take A&P through Edukan?

I also took Microbiology. I liked edukan better because I didn't have to deal with the lab kits and making a mess out of your home . That was excruciatingly painful with Straighterline.

Awesome! Was is self paced like Straighterline or semester-based?

It's semester based. It's more traditional online class, but they provide you the e-textbook with the tuition. You can pick a session, for instance session 1 is usually a regular semester schedule and there are other sessions (depending on the class) that are shorter. I did micro in 8 weeks. Straighterline is def. "faster", but it was a pain to get an equivalent of an "A". I think an A was like 94% rather high. The thought of having to do a fetal pig dissection in my kitchen makes me cringe lol.

this is so helpful. Thank you! I kinda wanted to use something other than Straighterline with real transcript grades but without saying online. I'll check it out!

Are you interacting with a professor the entire time? Or is it all the content pre-loaded with deadlines? Is it possible to get a recommendation letter from these online professors?

Technically you can interact with the professor during their given "office hours". However, I didn't and I just did the weekly course work. The content is pre-loaded with deadlines, but there are usually weekly discussion board. I guess it is possible to get a recommendation letter if you speak with the professor enough, which I did not do. Do you have any healthcare experience?

Thank you so much!

So when you did EUKAN how did you do the labs?

They have virtual labs, which were actually very good and really mimics in-person labs.
