Hello all, wondering if anyone has any comments on Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.

Looking for ED spots in WV, permanently relocating from Los Angeles but right now not too many options there.

Thanks in advance for any help!

How in the world did you pick out Ranson from across the country? I havent heard anyone on here working at Jefferson. Why are you moving to West Virginia? What are you looking for? Are there any other places to consider?

WV is a great place to live, but if you are used to or born in a large city, it will he a huge shock.

The wages are too high for me here in Los Angeles and the rent is too low. I'm finding myself getting in trouble with all the extra money I have left every month. And if you believe any of that....

Actually, I was a traveler at Cabell-Huntington last year and ended up staying on as staff. My family and I returned to Cali to pack up and take care of some business all the while planning to return to West Virginia. We loved everything about the state, especially the people. It's awesome there compared to what I'm used to here.

It's not easy moving a family across the country so I'm trying to find a travel assignment to help get us back there and look around some of the rest of the state. One company has a spot in Ranson - that's how I heard of it.

Take care,

Rob

To be honest with you, from what I have heard Huntington may be one of the best places in the state to work. The wages are really good and they seem to treat their employees decent. I have a good friend at Cabell and she loves it.

Again I havent heard anything about Jefferson, and I cant remember anyone on the board working there. I am surprised there are not traveling position for Huntington hospitals. You may also want to look at close hospitals in Kentucky such as Three Rivers if you are wanting to get in the area.

Ranson is a bit away from Huntington. This may not make sense but while I would strongly recommend the Huntington hospitals, I would strongly recommending not moving to Huntington. They have a crime and drug problem (as do many communities) and while they seem to be taking actions to lessen this but I would not want to live there.

It wont compare to the worst areas of LA, but still not acceptable or normal for WV. The good thing about this though is that the Teays Valley area is really close (about 15-20 min away) and the area is great. Nice people, low crime, low traffic and plenty of open area if you dont want close neighbors. Teays Valley is also about 20 minutes away from the Charleston area, which has multiple hospitals along with insurance and state agencies if you ever tire of bedside care.

I hear what you're saying about the city of Huntington! When I was traveling there, we lived in Barboursville. We actually looked at buying a home in Scott Depot. That area was real nice, good reviews on the schools too.

We're just trying to get close to where we were. There was a ton of nice people at Cabell.

We'll see what pops up in that area.

Thanks for the info!

Rob

No problem, if you have anymore questions let me know. I said Three Rivers but I meant King's daughters.

Hello Rob,

Glad you ppreciate our little state and the people here. I hope you can move here and live a more relaxed life with your family. I agree with Noryn, Huntington is the best paying place. There is CAMC in Charleston, and Thomas Memorial in South Charleston. Pay not as good as Huntington but there are jobs. I do not know if there are any travel job in Charleston, maybe you can contact one of the agencies and check it out. Let us know what happens and good luck.

One other thing Rob, Maryland is a walk thru state, lots of work, and though it would not be easy, you could explore several areas in WV and work there. Just a thought. You could get more info from an agency on openings.

Rob -

St Marys and Cabell ER's both may be hiring. I'll check and let you know. Just hired a couple of travelers in PICU for RSV season - HINT HINT! Give me a call when you can - you've got the number!

We've got a lump of coal with your name on it!
