Re: A "Worst" list and WV was not mentioned!!!
Hello,
Here is what I know. Every hospital in WV is hiring nurses, and if you are an experienced nurse ready and willing to come on board, work for a lower salary than some other places, understand the pace here is slower and the doctors practice as much defensive medicine as proactive medicine, then come on over. COL is a little lower here on food, but gas can be high, utilities are in the middle. We have an older population so respect is important to the patients. We do have HIV, STD's, Hep B and C but in lower numbers than many, many other places. We are not as culturally diversified as other places, we do have a few blacks in the bigger towns, a few Asians,
a few Indians, and a few Mexicans. There are few race problems here. We have all four seasons, our roads are rough in many places, (coal trucks really eat them up), and we are within 500 miles of many of the important cities in the East. Flights leave Charleston every morning for New York and return every night. Myrtle Beach, SC, the vacation spot of many, is about a 7 hour drive, other beaches are closer, the Smokies are close but we have our own mountains, so they are not quite as impressive to us, Columbus, Ohio is 4 hours from my door, Charlotte, NC is about the same. We can be clannish but we are not stupid, we do not marry our own family, we have some of the best laws for women on the books(that was reported on GMA) and our graduation rate is higher than NC, Va, Nevada, Tx, and many, many other states. Good luck and come on over if you can. You might be surprised and love it.
