Vitamin K for newborns

I was hoping that someone might be able to answer a question for me. I need to know this for a class.

Are vitamin K shots for newborns required by state law or are they just a recommendation? Where can I find this imformation at?

Thanks, any help would be really appreciated.

Jennifer

Default Newborn meds
It's State law in California, and I think it is nationwide. Also we give Erythromycin eye ointment.
