Nurse Extern

Has any one been an extern in the Charleston - Huntington Wv area? I was wondering about the pay. I think that CAMC is 8 dollars an hour and Thomas is 12 dollars an hour. does any one know if there are pay differences for different shifts of anything or what the pay rate for Cabell Huntington or St Marys or St Francis is? Thanks... I have an Interview with CAMC on April 4th and i got a call back from Cabell Huntington and i was just wondering what the pay is.... Thanks
Samantha

Thomas is $12/hour. I don't think there are any shift differentials, but I am not certain. I have worked there as an extern for the past year, and they have been great to me. I would definitely recommend them. Good luck!

I know money is important factor when considering any job, but ..... you need to give a little thought to what each facility will expect you to do and how each facility will meet your learning needs. I hear a lot of talk about CAMC just using the externs as glorified CNA's. I have not heard much about Thomas or Cabell. You need to ask some really smart questions before you accept anything. Give each place some consideration.

In the area I do know Cabell has a better reputation for treatment of employees than any facility in the Charleston area. I am not sure why.

Good luck.

You probably don't need to know this anymore, but I just thought I'd add for anyone else who searches in the future... St. Mary's is 9 for first year and 12 for 2nd year externs.
