Fairmont State graduate?

I graduated in 2001 from the ADN program. I really enjoyed and was very glad that I ended up attending at Fairmont rather than WVU. I felt like the instructors gave a lot of personal attention. I know quite a few of the instructors have changed since I attended though. Enjoy!

I graduated from Fairmont this past May (06) with my ADN. Let me know if you're still interested in knowing a little bit about the program! I think the hardest thing for me.. was figuring out how each proffessor tests. I wasn't a great test taker.. so having so many different professors for each class was sometimes a challenge. Let me know how you're doing in your first semester!

To those of you that attended Fairmont State University and graduated from the ADN program, HOW did you get in?! I hear that the competition is stiff and it's a long wait list, that's the reason I'm trying to get into LPN school and do the LPN-RN bridge. Did you have to have a 4.0 and lot's of volunteer work? Please give those of us that would love to get in some pointers!!

I tried to get in to the nursing program right after high school... and that definitely did not happen. But, my first year of college was a good intro into the program. I took classes I would need anyways ( ex. Anatomy and Phys, diet therapy, sociology, race class and gender, american gov ) I can't remember some of the others.. but I made a 3.8 my first semester and a 3.6 my second. I took my SAT's over again and scored a 22 or something.. not that great. But then I reapplied my freshman year and got in. I was not a 4.0 student before or during the program. They have a scoring sheet that determines who they let in... and usually if you're over 90% you're in. And then after the 90% they start taking those who are closest to that. So I'd go and get the scoring sheet from the secretary at the office.. or schedule a meeting with the dean of nursing to see what you need to do to get in. In this scoring system.. you get so many points for an A in each class that they recommend.. and a B is less pts... So ..just do well in those pre reqs. for nursing and you'll be fine. I honestly wouldn't waste the time to go to lpn school and then to the rn. I'd focus soley on the classes that would help me get in the rn program. And then go from there. The LPN's that joined us our last year of school had a harder time adjusting to 'thinking' like an RN and not like a LPN. Let me know if you want any more info!! Good Luck!!

There is no waitlist for entry into the program; you have to reapply each year if you did not get in the year before.

I graduated last may also, and found that most of the instructors took the time to help you if you needed it. There is a mix of testing styles and personalities, and you have to learn which way the teacher will test (one teacher uses Saunder's review questions during lecture for bonus points; she doesn't say where the review questions come from though, I just figured it out because I bought the book to study from after her lectures and the questions looked very familiar -- wish I had figured it out before her lectures ). I had no problems passing boards after graduation, and I am working in L&D now and loving it.

I just got into the nursing program at Fairmont state, this was my first time applying. There isn't a wait list and you have to apply each year. Take the pre-reqs and get very good grades, keep your GPA up, and CONSTANTLY fill out the score sheet to find out what percentage you have, because that is ALL they go by!

I just got accepted to Fairmont. I have been at WVU for the past three years and I only applied to their program once but I didn't even get granted an Interview. They said if you had a 3.0 you got one and I had that but still didn't get one. They favor instate students way more and I'm from PA so I decided to try Fairmont. I had a 38/38 on the scoresheet but a friend of mine got in and she had a 34/38 so it doesn't have to be that high.
