considering hospice

Hello. I am new to this forum and think it is great. I am an RN working in the hospital setting right now, but I am thinking of going into hospice case management. Anybody have any opinions or insight? Thanks.

Default Hospice
Hospice does great work . Patients and their families are always so happy they made the decision to spend that time together, but it can be depressing when you are really close to a patient and they pass on. Even though it is expected, it can really hurt. Just a reminder, I wish you luck on whatever you decide.

I did 3 months with a Hospice nurse during my senior year of nursing school and it was wonderful!!!! I do believe hospice takes a mature nurse though. myself, I don't have the experience, or "nursing maturity" to do the work, but I definitely look forward to hospice nursing in my future. I loved my hospice nursing school experience!!

Thank you all for your posts re: hospice. I already took the job and so far I really like it. I'll try to post again and let you guys know how its going. I am a "mature" nurse and I think you are right, I think this would be very hard for a new grad. In fact, I think you have to have 5+ years of clinical experience to be considered for a position.
