Come on lurkers, post!

Hi raisins,
So post. You may have questions, observation, statements that we would be interested in reading and giving you a reply. We are a pretty friendly but small bunch, what do you have to lose?

It is feast or famine. A good clerk is worth their weight in gold. There used to be a float clerk from 7A to around 7P but no more. Some of us older nurses jump in when able to help stuff charts, put orders in computer, file lab results or call for stats when its hectic if we can but after awhile one of the clerks just expected us to do her job while she talked with her boyfriend or played games on the cell, so we sort of backed off with her. We still help the other two who do a wonderful job. I love the way a unit runs when a core staff that includes good clerks, cna's and nurses hit that stride and things flow easily from one level to the other.
I like to think I work by the Golden Rule, but sometimes it is hard.

Have you investigated the nursing schools in your area, actually talking face to face to someone at the school to give you an idea of what you need to do to gain admission to the nursing program? That is always a good place to start.
Let me tell you a little story. The year I started school for RN I had given up on being in that class. I was a working LPN, had taken prereq classes, but had been notified that the class was chosen and full by letter. I was sitting at home, when the phone rang, it was the school, could I get in there that day, write a check and be ready to start a chemistry class on Monday! Honey, I almost got a ticket getting there. Needless to say, after many ups and downs I have been a nurse for many years. There is always a way to acomplish the goal if you are truly committed to getting there.
Nursing school takes a lot of time for study and comittment to see things through even when things in your life are tough. Think on it, check with several schools, decide if you are ready to commit, then go for it. Good luck in whatever you decide. Come back anytime, someone will always post with you.

Fairmont State has a good program. I think you will get as good an education there as at the U. With the price of gas, a drive means more expense, so think about that, and we do have some bad weather issues too.
