Beckley area nurses/ what's really happening at RGH?

A few weeks ago the paper ran a story saying RGH was considering some changes but nothing that would effect employees or patient care too much. Now, according to the news, there has been a minor lay off and a reduction of hours for employees. What is the real story about RGH? Are they going to have another lay off? How are the employees effected by the reduced hours, most especially the benefits? Did they hire a bunch of new grads ?

From what I have read they did lay some employees off, I think 7 or so. They blamed it on decreased census. I would be surprised if they laid RNs off. I havent heard anything, I dont know why their census would be decreasing that much. Normally census does decrease somewhat in the summertime but apparently the drop is more than was expected.

Hi Noryn,
There is absolutely nothing being discussed about RGH here. I get the feeling many of the employees are holding their breath for the next layoff.
Something is just not right there. Yes, patient census drops off in the summer, but that happens every year. I don't know but my gut tells me there is more to come.
