I'm not externing in Huntington but am in Charleston if you are interested in the commute. I just did my orientation @ Thomas Memorial Hospital. They are VERY flexible with schedules and the pay isn't too bad for an extern. Here's a link to an online app if you're interested. Best of luck to you.

Pretty much everything that a CNA would.
Vital Signs, AM & PM care, bed changes, blood glucose checks, Foleys, I&O, enemas, wound care, surgical dressing changes, NG tubes, stoma care, skin care....yada yada yada
The nursing supervisor said they expose us to and let us do a little more than what CNA's do. I haven't been on the floor yet. I went through 3 days of orientation last week and will start patient care on Friday. I'll post back and let you know how things go once I get into the full swing of things.

Sounds like you do have a lot on your plate this semester so I don't blame you for not wanting the commute. Thomas is a 40 minute drive for me. Boone Memorial Hospital is only 2 minutes from my house but they only take externs over the summer. I may opt to work there over the summer. I guess it depends on how things go @ Thomas.
