UW BSN Fall 2011

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I am planning on applying this year for Fall 2011 BSN at UW, although I doubt I'll be competitive due to my lack of healthcare experience. I'll have a bit over 100 hours by the time the application is due, but in more than one setting. I'm sort of just planning to go through the motions this year so I know what to expect the following year. Also A&P is kicking my butt this quarter so I probably won't end up with an A :( . Anyone else applying?

I GOT IN TOO!!!! Can't wait to see you guys in the fall!

I got in as well!! Congrats everyone!!! My letter says admissions is contingent on admissions to the univerisyt and that I should receive an offer in the next few weeks. Should I be worried about this? Do people get into this program and then turned down by the university? The wording "offer" sounds positive but the beginning of the statement makes it sound like there is another desicion to wait for. What do you all think?

Hey everyone, congrats on being accepted! I went out and celebrated last night, but this morning the reality of my situation is hitting me. It will be so hard to give up my space. I'm going to spend the weekend applying for scholarships and trying to do more research on aid for second degree students.

Also, if any out of area accepted applicants will be looking for roommates this fall, please let me know.

CulleK,

Sorry I missed your question before...I don't think that you need to worry about the University's decision, so long as you met their requirements. I applied as a postbac, so I'm not sure what the requirements were for transfers. I know that Rachel from this thread had issues with her foreign language counting the first time she applied.

Thanks Kristina! I applied as a postbac as well. I think it is going to be okay, but part of me still worries a little. Congrats on your acceptance! I know you are worried about finances, but I would encourage you to explore the funding opportunities. I already have a degree as well and bills that are not going anywhere during nursing school, but there are tons of opportunities out there. UW has the loan you can apply to where they help you pay for school, and then you work for them for a year after you graduate. There are also many private student loans out there. UW has a blog where they talk about funding opportunities as well. Maybe you could go meet with a financial aid person at the UW and they can further assist you. I'm not sure of your specific financial issues, but I would encourage you to accept the offer and try to work it out!

CulleK,

Thanks for your post! I've talked to a few other people about my situation and they've all said something similar to what you said- getting accepted is an incredible opportunity and I should not be so quick to dismiss the idea of going. I've found a few small scholarships I am going to apply for as well as the loan with UWMC. I'm going to be starting a second job as a CNA on weekends and holidays. I also have a friend who says I can live with her and her husband for the two months after the current lease on my apartment expires. This will help me save up money to move to Seattle. If I can find a couple of roommates and a cheap place around UW that will help too. So for now I'm going to accept the offer, and hope for the best!

We haven't heard from a few other people on this thread after letters went out- Rachel, Cynders, Angelina, katej326, I'd love to hear back from you guys, hope you received good news!

Hey guys!

Looks like UW isn't in my future...I am wondering what percentage of the incoming class have prior degrees? Maybe they really are setting up like "med school" :). Anyway I'm not worried...I was waitlisted for OHSU last year so chances are I will get in this year (will hear next month so hopefully I didn't just jinx myself!) I am also accepted to the BSN program at the University of Alaska Anchorage, my hometown, so that's another option. One way or another I know I am starting a program this fall!! :D

Kristina,

I am so glad to hear that you were accepted and I second CulleK! Find a way to attend...it would be such a shame to give that up! I know you would regret it!!

Congrats to everyone else who was accepted!!

Aww Rachel, I am sorry to hear that! Looks like you have some great alternatives though, I wish you the best of luck!

Did anyone else notice that we were given two different dates to reply by? My letter says that I have to return the form by April 20th or I will be removed from the accepted students list, but the actual purple form we are supposed to return says May 15th.

Kristina I did notice that. I went by the earlier deadline just to be safe!!

Does that mean you chose UW over Seattle U? Or are you still deciding?

Has anyone gotten acceptance letters from the university yet?

Also-I'm planning a trip to Seattle soon to check out apartments and to visit the school again. Any local people have suggestions of good neighborhoods I should start in? I don't really know Seattle at all.

I haven't gotten my acceptance letter from the UW yet but they SoN said that if you get into the program its a 99.9 percent chance you'll get into the school. Its more of a formality from my understanding as they can waiver any problems getting into the school
