Hahaha, mnhealthcare signed up on the 17th and has made exactly two posts--both in this thread defending TCN and flaming those who reported negative experiences.

I'm wondering why it is SO necessary and so easy for people to get online and just be ugly and hateful to other people whom they have never met. I think it's kind of obvious who the losers are around here. Good grief.

Who ever lived in Texas as LVN's there is a new program joint between TCN and Angelo State University in Angelo,Texas specially meant for TEXAs LVN'S only. You signed up with TCN for your pre-reqs and then enroll through ASU for your nursing program like Transitions in Nsg. one of the subjects and it will starts in Summer 09. It is a program from LVN to ADN to BSN. I have attended a workshop at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital all their LVN's ar going to this program. It is set up for busy LVN's that does not have time to go to a traditional ADN Community College. In this program you take your pace. no time limit. You can work lots of hours at thesame time studying distant learnin for your RN degree. I think this is very wonderful program. Check out their website.TCN and Angelo State University. i was formerly with the traditional RN school I withdraw and decided to go to this distand ed. For clinicals you don't need to go for CPNE for Excelsior College which is a lot of money you need to spend one week end at your state choice where you take yuour clinicals and the fee this time I believe is $1,900.00 and the waiting period is 3-9 mos.with ASU any nurse with a BSN degree can check you off for your clinicals in a hospital and complete your hours required by ASU and passed your nsg. subjects and then you can sit for the NCLEX. ASU is recognize by NLN. So you guys who are LVN's check it out. Good Luck...to all of us...

I agree with you buddy. I know some LVN who are now RN's went through TCN and doing fairly well. I know it is a little bit expensive but hey, if you don't have time to go to a traditional community college for your ADN degree go to distant learning. Liek what I've said check it out. Indiana University has this same program with Angelo State University. But for Texas LVN's check out with ASU. okay?

I know that TCN is NOT necessary if you are going to do Excelsior.

Sounds like this person works for TCN. I hope that whoever wrote this knows is not convincing. This person sounds rude and obnoxious. If that's how the customer service and representatives are then I would not spend one thin dime with them. Also, why are people attacking each other here? Everyone has the right to post their own experience's, good or bad.

I will back the statement that TCN is a rip off. They are not a college, they are an unnecessary middle man between you and Excelsior college. I bought some used TCN "books" which entailed text-only pages in a 3-ring binder. Somebody is making a lot of money getting people to sign contracts for this crap. I didn't even use them. The best thing to do is listen to what Excelsior tells you in their study guides and get quality texts. Excelsior works. You just have to have an understanding of how it works and what to expect before you get started.

Has anyone heard of, or is/was in the program for either RN-BSN, or RN-MSN through The College Network? I'm thinking of doing this program. It seems reasonable and priced well. But does anyone have any insightful info for or against the program? Thanx ~ John

I am currently working on finishing my prereqs with them Took A and P exam today very very hard but I passed

I definately think its hard but it did only take me 6 weeks to study and complete A and P

To compalin too much,

The reason I was ripped off has nothing to do with your top 5 reasons. You sound like a know it all, but let me be the one to inform you, I was lied to. I was told TCN was setting up a program through the company I work for to help with the tuition cost. That was not true. I would not have signed a contract if I thought I would be paying the $6000 on my own. I was not told they are just a publishing company. You can buy these same cheaply put together binders off of Ebay for next to nothing. Once they get you to sign with them, they never call you to see how your doing with your education. I am currently getting my BSN through a real college and I do not procrastinate.

You expect them to call you and say what??? A regular college counslor doesnt call you just to see how you are doing but I can pick up the phone any time and ask for help clarification or anything else I may need the guy who signed me up is always a email away as well

I made a mistake signing up for TCN and I know I did. I am paying for it monthly until I pay it off and its going to cost me a whole bunch more money to get my BSN.

The mistake I made is thinking that I could learn the material without having a stuctured class with a deadline to meet and instructors. I always seem to find other things to do like work and family responsibilitys then to sit down and study the material on my own. I am now in a BSN program and I am progressing well. I know that I need stucture to learn and TCN does not provide it.

My personal opinion is to stay away from TCN, learn from my mistake...
