Tacoma Community College Nursing Program Class of 2010

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hi everyone who got in with me for the fall 2008 quarter. I thought it would be cool if we had our own thread to post our questions and concerns. I for one am very excited for orientation. I don't want to wait a whole month! I'm sure it will fly by so fast!

lets introduce ourselves,

I'm Amanda!:nurse:

Hello all...I was wondering if someone could help me out...I have to get some Titers. I need hep B and varicella titer and i was not sure where to go and how much this is going to cost. If anyone could steer me in the right direction I would be forever grateful!

ILovePeople,

You get the titer from your doctor who would get the blood draw from your arm vein and send to the lab. The doctor then would get the result within a week and interpret and write the letter saying you're protected.

You need to give the result paper and the doctor's note to the nursing office.

I had insurance when had those done. Specifically how much the cost I cant remember, around $100 for the hepaitis B titer.

You can try public health clinic.

this is in reference to the 2 open days question: Usually we have no open days. We have clinicals in the community that are done at various times and usually on our one scheduled day that we do not have to on campus or at the assisted living facility, we are at another clinical location. Some weeks I have 1 day off, but it can't be counted on. The schedule is nothing like it appears in the class schedule, it is just there so they have SOMETHING for us to register for. The first 2 weeks are completely different from the actual schedule they give you. It is WAY different from prerequisites, but once you get used to it, it's all good.

Best of luck to you, and remember to breathe!!

Thanks for all the info guys! I am supper nervous to start the program. I hear there is tons of reading and you have to get good grades (B's) on the tests...I am HORRIBLE at tests!! I am sure I will do fine...but it is nerve racking!! We have orientation on Dec. 12th!!! It made it so much more real when we got the orientation email!!! Man oh man...are we gonna be busy!

I

the reading assignments are insane. I'll tell you the truth though, i have not read any of the assigned reading since the first test and I have recieved a's on everything. We are given study guides and a note card to use on the test. It is not high stress... YET!! Relax darling, you wouldn't be here if you couldn't handle it. If you can't relax, don't worry... you will be in good company. I'd say 1/2 my class is anxious all the time and they also do really well on the tests. I myself, can't be bothered with the added stress of worrying so I just play it by ear and do my best. Just remember that orientation is surely misleading, it's not as bad as it seems at first.

Thank you soooooo much! What a blessing to get an insider's prospective! Thanks, and continue doing well!! I will see you around in January!!

Can someone clarify? I'm confused. So you can take nursing classes through summer quarter as well? I thought that was only available through the part-time option.

Thanks!

no. part time, only. UNLESS you happen to start in the winter, I think they let you finish your preceptorship in the summer so you don't have to wait till fall.

Hi, I am thinking of applying to TCC for fall of '09. Any advice or suggestions? Their selection process seems pretty straightforward, how did it go for you all?

I took my state board today and received no email in regards to not passing, however, my status has not changed from "Ready for Delivery" since I first saw it at 11:30 this morning.

I was finished with my exam around 9:55 this morning, and am wondering if it takes longer than a couple of hours, or if that means that they are holding my exam for some reason.

Has anyone else had to wait more than a few hours for that to change? What can it possibly mean?

Thank you bunches

Debbi
