Swedish August Residency 2017

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Just wondering if anyone has been contacted for the 2017 August Residency at Swedish hospital?

It's looking like they are still evaluating the candidates and we will hear on or before sept 15th.

So just some information from a phone conference I participated in today. There are about 1000 applicants for 80-90 positions. They typically interview 3-10 people for 1 position, but are trying to get that ratio down to 2:1. It definitely sounded like all interviews for ICU, ED, and L&D for the November cohort have already been scheduled (90% of applicants list one of those 3 specialties as their top choice). Your HireVue video interview is not shared with hiring managers. If you do get an interview offer prepare for a professional interview! Apparently they have been having issues lately with candidates coming in late or not in professional dress. If you're late, you'll pretty much be automatically rejected. Hiring managers like to see that you are team-oriented, patient focused, and organization focused. If you are selected for an interview you will need 3-5 references that complete an online skill survey about you. Also, you will need to write a unit-specific cover letter for the position you are interviewing for.

@coug_nurse et al - I appreciate the helpful information. I am thinking forward to when I will be applying this time next year -- for the November 2018 cohort. I've looked at the info posted by Swedish, but was not able to see what materials are needed for the application. Do they ask for transcripts, purpose statement, etc? Or is it just resume and cover letter, with references provided if interview is granted?

Thanks for any clarity!

@agirlhasnoname It was an online application in which you included your resume and cover letter. It then asked some very basic multiple choice questions like if you have worked for Swedish, did clinicals at Swedish, etc.

Hi coug_nurse! Thank you for all the information. If you don't mind me asking have you had an in person interview yet? For which unit are you applying? I am still waiting to hear from them.

I wish there was a forum/thread more specific to the November cohort :(

Thanks in advance!

@cardiacnurse17 I have not heard anything back yet. I put my preferences as ED and med/surg. One specific unit I applied for was the Issaquah surgical floor. What were your preferences?

Thanks for the response @coug_nurse! I put down Neuro Telemetry and ICU(even knowing they don't hire new grads). Yesterday, he sent me a link to provide my references and the message said "If there is any reason why you cannot complete this within 24 hours, please contact your recruiter at Swedish Medical Group. " I'd already sent emails to my instructors 2 weeks ago, but some of them hadn't responded yet. So I went like crazy texting everybody yesterday! Omg í ½í¸² So stressful to be texting people on a holiday weekend :( But luckily they responded fast, so I was able to complete it in time. Did you get this email too? I thought we were only providing references after being scheduled for an interview... so weird!

If you got to that stage it means you will get an interview! They do the references simultaneously while scheduling you for an interview, so I am sure you will hear back within the next couple of days for an interview time. I'm glad you were able to get all your references lined up, but I can certainly see how that was stressful!

I would be you are going to get an interview for the Neuro Telemetry. At the Friday phone conference that is one that he said has a lot of spots for interviews. I can't remember what day he was scheduling those for. Good luck!! He also said they do have some step down unit positions that they may place people in that requested ICU.

I hope you are right! I'm sure you'll be hearing from him soon as well :) :)

Thanks much; I bet you will hear very soon!

Good luck with interviews everyone! I just got mine set-up for the surgical unit at Swedish Issaquah!
