Seattle University APNI

U.S.A. Washington

Published

I just got accepted to Seattle University's APNI program and was wondering if any of my fellow future classmates were interested in starting a thread of our own.

We are about to embark on an amazing, stressful and exciting venture--June is just around the corner!

We may as well start getting to know each other now.

When I initially decided to apply to SU I found very little on allnurses, so I'm hoping this thread will also be a place where prospective APNI's can post and get some advice from us . . . eventually :p

So, if anyone is interested in introducing themselves I'd love to hear from you.

I look forward to meeting everyone at orientation in June :D

Any advice from current students is greatly appreciated too!

I will be in town this Thursday and the weekend of May 16th. I'm moving over the first weekend in June and would love to meet everyone whenever it works out. We aren't far from SU and downtown. I would be happy to coordinate something for the weekend of the 16th for whoever can make it. There are some great restaurants and bars near the SU campus if anyone is interested in getting to know that area but I am open to just about anywhere. :)

Hello fellow APNIers! I will absolutely be at the gathering in June. I won't be able to make it up the Seattle the weekend of 5/16 due to my maid of honor duties in a friend's wedding.

I'm actually headed up to Seattle this weekend in hopes of looking at some apartments (scary stuff :uhoh3:!). The area close to SU doesn't seem all that safe (high number of sex offenders, drug use, homelessness, etc.)... Is this true?/ Has anyone experience this?

Any pointers on decent apartments in the area that allow dogs, are safe, and reasonably priced? Any info would greatly help... I seriously don't even know where to start.

Thanks in advance!

the area near campus is very safe. If you're coming from uber-suburbia and don't want to live in a city with economic and other diversity, then try the East Side. Seattle is a very safe and clean and beautiful city with many types of people. i've lived here all my life and never known anyone who experienced anything more threatening than a car prowl. cap. hill has a lot of noisy, messy 20-something club-goers on weekend nights and i'd say that is the biggest prob with living near campus.

Haha I'm definitely one of those 20-year olds that party on the Hill. I agree, Seattle is definitely very nice. The one area that has seen an increase in crime is Seattle's U-District, which is home to the University of Washington and many UW students. I'd say that it's about 15 minutes from SU. Generally, I'd say it's still a safe area because I lived there without incident for the better part of four years. I just thought I'd give a heads up since there is a lot of student housing in that area.

APNIStudent and j450n,

Thanks for your replies! That's reassuring. I grew up in L.A., so I'm definitely used to city life and all that comes with it... just was a little concerned after reading some apartment reviews from tenants in the area.

Thanks again!!!

There are many nice apartments in the neighborhood. I live in one! There are some isolated pockets that are less nice in the Central District (South and East of school) and First Hill, but most of the area around the school is nice.

I came here from New York but I've heard people complain about apartments here that seem like luxury living to me. Just remember that the reviews are subjective and you can always ask around here if a particular block/area is ok.

Ok lovies... are we going to start throwing out some ideas on where and when we should meet for a second get together???

I live in Everett, hence I'll be doing some driving regardless and do not mind where/when we have our 2nd get together... perhaps we can invite Sabrina this time :-)

Hey everyone. I got some exciting news this week. I have been offered an incredible scholarship to Mass General and have decided to head back to Boston (where I grew up.) I wish everyone the best and am sad not to be joining the Seattle U family! I will be giving up a Sinegal Scholarship so I hope they are able to give it to somebody else! Best of luck to everyone!

Anne

Hey Anne. Congrats on your decision. I also received a Nursing Scholarship from SU and denied Mass. General Hospital Institute for Health Professions. Have fun in Baaasten LOL :-). And congrats again. What Track were you going to pursue at SU btw?

I was in the FNP track.

Hi friends!

My name is Mary Margaret, and I'm just now finding this thread. I was also waiting to hear about possibly larger scholarships to another school, but I am now 100% Seattle U! I will be in the LCN program and look forward to meeting all of you very soon!

Does anyone have good ideas for a May meet-up? I'll be out of town May 16-24. I live in Seattle, so drinks, dinner, a game, anything would be fun. Eastlake Bar & Grill should be great pretty soon. :-)

Have a good week everyone,

Mary Margaret

Hi Everyone!

So I have two topics to ask y'all about:

1. Are there people interested in getting together on Saturday, May 16th? I know that some of you are going to be visiting here then and some of you are going to be away then. I would be happy to be able to meet even a smallish group of you, as I missed the previous gathering. If so, ideas on a time? Place?

2. I am wondering if anyone else has been fretting slightly about the technology we should have. Fortunately I have an iPod Touch, which Patrick Murphy confirmed will work just fine as a PDA (and I already have some Netter's Anatomy flash cards on it, and I know that there's an application for Taber's Medical Dictionary and some other helpful ones!) What I don't own is a notebook computer. My current desktop has been working just fine since I bought it - I think in 2003? - but I'm wondering if it's time for a portable computer. Does anyone have a sense of whether it will matter if we're computing just at home or bringing them to school also? Or of any specific software that we'll need?

Thanks!

Sara
