Greetings,

I was just wondering if there are any PLU BSN 2013 applicants. I put name if a few hats (UW, SU + ADN/CC programs) and I am sure there are multiple applicants to the PLU programs. Just trying to get a feel from applicants. Also, if there are any current PLU BSN students or Alumni, feel free to chime in on the PLU BSN program. Thanks & all the best to everyone!

Food for thought: The road of least resistance is the road of least progress.

@delvia... I personally hate ebooks for school. I've tried using them before and for a simple novel for a good read or English class they are great! Unfortunately though they are extremely difficult to use if you need to flip through and find a specific topic, use two chapters at once, or are at all a visual learner. Just imagine trying to use the ebook while doing an end of chapter review and trying to "flip" through the chapter to find the answers. Sucky. Anywho... just my two cents... I'll be going with actual books for all 3 years. It may be heavy, but it will save my sanity.

Oh and I will be getting the medical dictionary and drug calculations books.

I decided the same, too. I went ahead and got hardcopies of all our texts and bought the optional texts. I figure the optional texts are something that will help me out in one way or another.

On an another note, is anyone doing anything to get ready for class? I've been getting organized and trying to put things into order around the house. I think I might dive into some of our textbooks before class starts, too.

I was moved to the fall 2013 cohort! I was wondering if anyone wants to meet up for coffee before school starts? It would be nice to get to know some of my cohort before classes start. I know there are only a few weeks left, but thought I would throw it out there. :)

Hello again,

Getting ready to start the BSN program this Spring 2014. Very excited  I just got done with my nursing health packet and dropped that in the mail today. So, currently I'm taking GUR's at PLU. But I am wondering if any current students have any advice for those of us starting up pretty soon? How are the instructors? Scheduling? For our first class, NURS 220, I see that the lab and clinical run from 6 am to 11:40 as a range. How have you dealt with scheduling on those days?

If there is anything else you care to share, please do! At this point the anticipation is killing me!

@mc0306

We just finished our first semester and it was great! The lab/clinicals scheduling is fine. If you have a class after lab, you have nothing to worry about. The instructors understand and will accommodate that. About half of our class had Micro after lab and if worked out just fine. But don't schedule a class during those hours of course! The instructors are great :-) especially the clinical instructors. Just amazing... :-). I suggest getting things done early. Don't procrastinate like many of us did. It cause quite a few of us way more stress than we should have had. Get a study group together. It really does help... You guys aren't competing against each other anymore so it's time to come together and help each other out. The app Study Blue was super helpful for us so I would look into that. Don't stress too much about Putting it all together day (the "lab final" where you demonstrate that you know how to do stuff without killing someone). It's really not that bad and the instructors understand that you are only in your first semester. Get used to group projects. The instructors LOVE them. Just enjoy the first semester! It's all about just getting you comfortable with talking to complete strangers and having you do things in a safe and clean way. PLU is an amazing school and it's a great program :-) You will love it! PM me if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the info. So one more question, I am not the "traditional" student in the nursing program. I am a mother and wife, so I have other obligations as well but school is my priority at the moment. I will be taking two religion classes (RG and RC) to meet that requirement, at the same time I am taking NURS 220. I just looked at the schedule that the Prof. has put out and it's pretty hefty.

What was your load when you took NURS 220? And is this first class pretty much like a CNA class or is it more in depth?

There are tons of mothers and single mothers in my cohort...they have all been able to manage the coursework though from what I hear, it takes some good time management. I took spanish 101 and a religion course with my nurs 220 and while its not god awful, it is a lot of work. Lots of writing and group projects. You do cover a lot of CNA stuff but I wouldn't say its a like a CNA course at all... You approach everything from a different angle and go into much more depth. The course load that the 220 prof gives isn't as bad as it looks. Its a lot but its completely doable. Not a terribly difficult course but just a lot of writing and learning how to handle a nursing course. You will be fine as long as you manage your time well. Our cohort started a Facebook page and it helped a lot! Just beware of hipaa rules with that. Don't worry too much though get work done early and you will be fine. Enjoy!

Thank you much sarah.b, I think I'm just getting a little scared. But I think I'll be fine, I usually am ;) Thanks for the clarification. It always helps to have someone in the cohorts ahead who can clarify these things.

Thanks again!

No problem! Good luck!!

I know this thread is old, but I was wanting to ask current PLU students a few questions about your schedule, how classes are, etc. anyone there? :)

Yea I still get emails about this thread :). Classes are great! Schedule is actually pretty good... This semester I have classes on Mondays and Wednesdays and lab on Tuesdays. Studying keeps me busy on the other days... Anything in particular you wanted to know?
