Nurse in the philippines, but have to moved in seattle

U.S.A. Washington

hi everyone!

i just wanna ask some questions with u guys out there.

im a registered nurse in the philippines and soon as i finished and passed the local board exam there,me and my family have to moved here in seattle.

now i dont know what to do in order to be license here.

some said that i should take the nclex and be licensed in california...

and if i passed the california board i can "transfer" my license here in washington.

in this way i dont have to take the CGFNS exam.because the california board doesn't required the CGFNS exam..

is this true???

is this a good way to be license here in washington???

i need ur advice guys!

thanks a lot!

hope u can help me :D

hi.. i am living in washington as well and a nurse in the philippines.. i thought i might help you with your question...

well 1st WA does not require you to take CGFNS.. only have your college transcript evaluated by them (cgfns site calls it CES)..it cost about $300+ and have the CGFNS send their evaluation directly to the WA board of nursing

then you will have to take the TOEFL..

those are their requirements..

personally... i am going to apply to california and have my license endorse here... that way i dont have to take TOEFL.. i have heard from friends that it is hard.. i wish they take ielts though...

another advice... while at it.. you may want to do what i am did... call dshs (website: http://www.dshs.wa.gov... ).. and ask them if ur education is elegible for CNA without going to school for it.. well they will say it does.. and they will have you fax your BSN diploma and PRC license card and they will mail you the forms.. anyways thats if you want to work.. ive been here for 5 months now and i wanted to work while studying and waiting for my ATT..

good luck... =)

hi MAE, i have situation like you. you mean it's much better to take NCLEX in CA rather here in WA? i'm processing my CGFNS here but i'm quite hesitant to take WA nclex 'cause they had so many requirements than in CA. can you please advise me? i would also love to work as CNA here while waiting for NCLEX. thank you so much!

hi manorm... youre a Filipino nurse as well? cool! im happy to know you.. how long have you been here.. anyways about your question.. that is only my opinion.. i weighed things and come up with that... actually my main reason is, i dont want to take the toefl.hehe.. i know two people personally that took it and failed twice.. and theyre really good in english.. im just not confident to blabber infront of the computer with just me talking.. and CES @ cgfns is just too expensive.. (although i would take it if only WA also accepts IELTS for english proficiency exam)..

so are you processing the CGFNS test itself or the CES? if the test.. i ask why? from what ive read they dont require you to take the test. only CES..

WA would require you TOEFL and CES and AIDS/HIV seminar (which you can do online).. did your school already send your transcript to CGFNS for CES? if they did.. then why not apply for WA instead.. take toefl then proceed to all the application... but if you havent done the ces yet.. it is up to you..

Passing your application to California they said would take about 2 mos for them to approve. then apply for endorsement after you pass.. no TOEFL, no CES

and yes.. you can call the number that i posted above and call them if you are eligible. im sure they'll say yes and they will give you the number to fax your diploma and PRC license.. ull spend $155 for everything though.. for the test and the certification.. goodluck.. send me a message if you need more help..

hi mae, i'm happy too i found some who i can look up to (you) hehehe... i've been here since nov 2010 and still finding the right path for me. i think i will do the same with you. :D

my cgfns course evaluation are now in the phils. to be submitted to my school. but i thinks i'll take my nclex in ca to speed up having my license. although cgfns is not required in ca, i took wrong step for that>>>>> having cgfns evaluation/ ces 'cause i'm really confused at that time where to have my license. may be i'll aks cgfns to forward my credetials to ca bon so my $300+ will be worth it, hope so.

about tofl, have you check it in wa bon? this is from their site:

"if you are applying to the certification program, you may be exempt from the english language proficiency requirement if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • country of nursing education was australia, canada (quebec approved schools include: mcgill university and dawson college in montreal, vanier college in st. laurent, john abbott college in sainte anne de bellevue, and herita college in gatineau), ireland, new zealand, south africa, trinidad & tobago, united kingdom (england, wales, northern ireland and scotland), jamaica or barbados
  • language of instruction and language of textbooks was english
  • i think we're qualified 2nd statement?! what do you think??? that mean, i need only to have my ces and probably they'll wave my tofl. (crossed my fingers) how about your friends that took tofl? what are their scenario? why they took tofl?

how about being cna? are you enjoying it? your work load? sorry got too many question hehe...

btw i'm from tacoma, how about you?

hey dont look up to me.. im a friend... and haha.. i just got here myself... a month earlier than you did... so how about exchanging numbers? maybe do facebook.. hehe.. it gets lonely here sometimes.. hhmm.. about the english profeciency exam.. i didnt know that.. i only read what they posted on their application packet.. also i think RN here is not a certification program.. so it might not be applicable.. but who knows.. ill probably call them tomorrow.. to make sure.. wont hurt to try, right? hehe..

so you already paid for the CES already? why not proceed.. you only need to have someone go to your school and have your papers in a rush.. then mail it with tracking number that way the cgfns wont deny that they havent gotten it yet,.. they said it would take about 4-6 weeks.. then take toefl and you dont have to worry about endorsing.. anyways if you decide to do the the CA route.. then your CES wont be wasted as well.. you can have the CGFNS forward your CES to WA coz they would still want it for endorsement.. =)

AND also im not working as a CNA yet.. i am taking the test on march 20 to be certified.. hehe.. although i already have an agency willing to take me after i have it.. i think i would like it.. i just want to work.. any job right now.. and relating to my field of experience would be a blessing..

ohh and i live in north seattle.. =)

Hi, mae and manorm. I have also the same situation like you. I'm also from the PH and migrate here in Seattle 7 months ago.

@.mae. can you please pm me the agency that you applied. I want to work as a CNA now while waiting for my eligibility to take the NCLEX. I already got my CNA certification.

Thanks in advance and good luck on your coming CNA exam.

Hi frn123! how's CNA exam? is it like NCLEX type? Good luck to your job hunting!

Hi everyone...may I join this thread?

My Pinay wife sat for the NCLEX-RN through the State of Vermont and passed it in September 2009. It took her about six weeks or so to endorse her license to Washington. She's now working as an RN at a LTC facility here in Seattle.

She passed the NLE and the IELTS when she lived in 'Pinas. When she endorsed her license to Washington, they didn't require TOEFL.

Best of luck on your NCLEX-RN as well as your CNA exam.

thanks cascade09.. i hope our fate on finding work here would be the same as your wife.. well anyways maybe different in someway but hopefully successful as well.. =)
