I have been in Seattle, Washington since August and have applied to numerous hospitals/clinics and not one has called me back!

I have 3years experience from the UK-Gynecology and float pool in various departments. I have a BSN. I even applied for Residencies!

This is driving me mad. Sooo desperate for a job. I now work at a kids store...I hate retail!!! Does anyone have any advice or tips for me?

Where in the area are you applying? Strictly Seattle or have you branched out?

I would say to walk your resume to a managers office. I know it has worked for some to bypass HR.

Are you needing any sponsorship or are you permanent here? I know a coworker nearly lost his job when it was time for him to redo his whatever to stay here, he has canadian citizenship. I am wondering if that is part of the problem. We have been hiring like mad in our unit...

Have you thought about working agency? At least it would be nursing work. There are tons of them around. I use to work for MSN and had no problem with them.

good luck

Hiya Tokmom, I have applied all over the area - Seattle, Redmond, Bellvue, Kirkland, Bellingham, Bothell etc.

I will take your advice and do just that.

Thanks-a-bunch!

Missnurse01,

I have a greencard through marriage. That's why I'm in the US, my hubby is American so I don't need sponsorship.

I don't think I want to work with an agency, I need to get some experience in America as I am not familiar with how things run here. With agencies you have to "hit the ground running" so to speak. I am talking to one and I have explained to them my issues.

Thanks.

Yes you are right, I have done a lot of agency work, and you def need to hit the ground running.

Did you also apply down in Tacoma-they have many hosp as well that usually have lots of openings.

good luck to you...

I was going to mention trying the southern part of the area. If your home is north, though, driving would be a big pain in the butt!

I'm not sure how far south you want to go.

missnurse01. I worked with a nurse whom was from Canada. He went back to renew his work visa (?) and something was wrong with it. They would not let him back into the US for months until it was fixed. It was a huge mess. He lost his job and everything. Thankfully things worked out and he was able to gain employment back in the U.S.

OP. I work with a British nurse. She was able to find employment , so hopefully you will to. She has been in the country for 8 yrs now.

Tokmom....sounds lime the same person I know ! Well almost. He was stuck up there for a few weeks. Almost lost his jib but after all was cleared after a month or so they let him have his job back. What a mess ! They have been in the US so long I told them woudnt it just be easier to become a us citizen.?

Hello,

You have the education and experience,so that can't be the problem. When you apply wait about a week and talk directly to the HR department about your application status and show your interest in the job. Worksource is another great resource to use for landing a good job. They help you with resumes and give you job referrals. When writing your cover letter let them know about a difficult situation you were in at your previous job and how you worked it out or solved the problem. Employers want to know why they should hire you and not the next qualified candidate.Tell them what makes you different. Volunteer at a hospital if you have the time. Pray and be patient. I know it's hard but the same thing happened to me finding a job as a CNA. Hope this helped and your time will come! Good luck!
