Interview with Swedish Medical Center

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hey guys!

I'm graduating nursing school in May. I go to Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN. I'm moving to Washington after graduation, so I've started looking for residency programs. So far I've applied to Northwest, EvergreenHealth, and Swedish. Two separate recruiters at Swedish emailed me and called me the same day I submitted an application to schedule a phone interview (I'm hoping that's a good sign). My interview is tomorrow at 1 pm central time. I've researched the hospitals history and their missions and values and I've researched nursing interview questions so that I could be as prepared as possible. Does anyone have any advice who has gone through Swedish's interview process (for the residency program or just in general)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to read this! :)

I just got accepted into the Swedish residency program! The phone interviews are typically pretty straight forward to see if you qualify :) they'll want to know work history/certifications/etc. Then they'll ask you why you're interested in Swedish specifically/why you want to be nurse, broad questions like that. Once you go through that they'll probably ask you what units you're interested in and then go from there. The in person interviews are more specific and I would definitely give yourself a day or two just to practice questions. I just googled nursing interview questions and practiced. But I think it's good to just review what experiences you have had in school/clinical/work and figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are. Even if you haven't prepared for a question that they may ask, at least you have recently reviewed your experiences and you can try to come up with something on the spot. Even if your example isn't nursing related you can always say "this isn't nursing related, however, I believe situations like this can come up in nursing" or something like that. :) Good luck!

Hi kelsey.g,

I was wondering if you could tell me what they asked you for the unit interview/panel interview? I have an interview very soon. Thank you so much.

Hey! CONGRATS on getting a panel interview! I know how exciting and nerve-wracking it is! It was a few months ago, but I'll try to remember what they asked....

- A time I had to address conflict with someone at work

- What are some of my weaknesses

- Why I wanted to work on that floor (gynecological surgical)

- What I knew about what they did on that floor

- Why I wanted to work at Swedish

- Why I went into nursing

- What questions I had for them (HAVE QUESTIONS!!!!! What does a typical day look like? What would my schedule be like? What additional educational opportunities do you offer to your nurses? How long will I be with my preceptor? Will it be the same person throughout?)

That's all I can remember! I'm sorry I can't think of more :(

I interviewed at 11 AM, and I got a call around 5 PM from HR offering me a position.
