by ahintonRN Feb 1, '12I am an RN in the state of Georgia and have a little over a year of Med/Surg experience. I am relocating to Washington state in April. I have applied for a few jobs and haven't heard anything back. Most positions require a year in that specific field. I really want to try something new.. I don't feel that Med/Surg is my forte. Should I still apply for these positions that I'm not necessarily qualified for? How do I find a job in a new field when I only have Med/Surg experience? Any advice for relocating to a new region? Thanks.

- Feb 1, '12 by vernRNYou might want to try an agency while applying for different positions. This way you could try out different facilities without a long term commitment. Med/Surg background does open opportunities for other areas. What other fields are you interested in?

I would go ahead and apply for the other jobs, though. Also, you could certainly get a job on a floor that is more-or-less med-surg but has a different focus from what you're used to, as a bridge to something else. Telemetry, if you haven't done that, or orthopedics, or geriatrics.tokmom likes this.
