commuting to VA puget sound

U.S.A. Washington

I will be accepting a position at the VA on S Columbian Way in Seattle, WA and am looking for safe housing within a reasonable commute. I am single, over 50, and am most concerned about safe neighborhoods. I'm looking at apartments right now up to $1000 a month, if that's possible. I am considering a suburb like Snoqualmie but am wondering about the commute. I would be working day shift hours. I don't want to be sitting in traffic but don't mind a 30 minute commute. Can anyone provide any feedback?

I live in Snoqualmie and did clinicals at the VA for two quarters. The traffic depends on what shift you will be working. If you are working morning shift at starting at 7 (which is when my clinicals were) the traffic will not be too bad at all. It will take about 25 minutes. If you have an evening shift that will have you starting anywhere between 3 and 6 traffic will be MUCH worse. After that it dies down again.

Thank you for the info. Can you provide any leads on safe, affordable housing in Snoqualmie? Any suggestions on housing in around Seattle within reasonable driving distance to the VA would be appreciated.

Snoqualmie is a really safe town. Finding something in town will be much more affordable than up in the Snoqualmie Ridge area, but it is a pretty expensive area. Anything close to I-90 on the Eastside (Snoqualmie, Sammamish, Fall City, Issaquah, North Bend, Bellevue, Mercer Island) will be pricey but you can find good deals and it is an easy commute to Seattle. If you go north of Seattle you will have more options in your price range, but your commute will be worse because you will have to go through Seattle to the VA and that traffic really sucks. If you go that route, you should stick to the Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace area, as any further north will really make your commute hell. I don't have much experience commuting to Seattle from the south, but I hear it can be a little rough. You can find some good prices though. As far as safe areas go, the Eastside is probably the safest over all but there are plenty of safe neighborhoods to the north and south too.

I don't know of any specific places off the top of my head, but I would be happy to keep an eye out and let you know if I see anything that might fit your criteria. How many bedrooms/how much space do you need? Do you have pets?

One or two bedroom (depends on the price), no pets. As for space, well I can live small if need be, 675 and up would be good. Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it!
