Why I hate DC

I haven't lived in DC for years now but, as your post demonstrates, things haven't changed much.

I've never had my car broken into as much as when I lived in DC. And I've lived all over.

I lived in a supposedly "nice" neighorhood too. And my car was just a cheap little compact. Yet, the window glass was broken three times. There wasn't even a radio or anything to steal. :rolleyes:

People in the neighborhood used to put signs in their cars saying "No Car Radio," trying to prevent the break-ins, but it didn't do any good.

After the first year when my apartment lease was up, I was so fed up, I moved to Virginia.

You have my sympathies. I certainly understand your frustration.

I spent the first few yrs of my life there, so I'm biased! But I hear you, I lived in Va. too for most of that time, going to school in DC. Not a very tough choice though, LA!!!!!!!!!!!!! all the way!

Hang in there, it's almost May. I lived in Philadelphia for a few years, never again. Same situation there.

I hear Philly is even worst! I mean there are some things that I do like about DC: the rich culture, the diversity, the history, the sights, but GEEZ! There are so many other things that outweigh those.

Anyway FYI: Got my window fixed. It cost me 150 bucks!!! Please keep in mind that I am a student so that means of course that I will have to eat noodles for the next month. Two more months left in this hell hole...PRAY FOR ME PEOPLE...

I moved out to Maryland and now I love it! I can metro in and enjoy all DC has to offer, but don't have to worry about the crime and traffic. I do drive to work-I won't take the bus to metro by Childrens at 11:00pm!

Yea, the Children's Neighborhood is pretty rough and I live right near it. I attend school at Howard University so I'm right off of Georgia ave and it is the worst!

I thought about moving to Maryland but b/c i am from LA I am used to driving so catching the metro everywhere is really not an option for me and driving isnt either b/c the parking SUCKS!

Because my car got broken into in broad daylight! I hear my alarm going off and I walk outside and the suspect just casually jogs away like nothing even happened. No point in filing a police report. I'm a student, times are hard, and I really don't need to be worrying about my safty outside of my house. Will be graduating in may and I have a choice to either stay out here and work at Childrens or go home to Beautiful Los Angeles. And to think, I was actually considering staying!
Why deal with the potholes, crackheads, unpredictable weather, horrible traffic and narrow roads when I could be at home relaxing in the sun on the beach. DOES ANYONE ELSE HATE DC AS MUCH AS I DO?!?!
SORRY IF I OFFEND ANYONE. BEEN HERE FIVE YEARS: FIRST COUPLE OF YEARS I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE IT WOULD GROW ON ME...UM...NOT!:angryfire

My brother and his fiance live in Arlington. She had to go into D.C. for a meeting, and someone broke into her car and stole what looked like a laptop computer case. In reality, it was her wedding planning binder. She had all her contract, pictures, ideas, etc. in there.

Exactly my point! What is it with DC?!?! I have never experienced anything like this is my life. And not only the car theft situtaion, but also the fact that you see those damn orange boots on every other car and not to mention those speed limit lights that take a nice snap shot of you and send it to you in the mail. I have well over 500 bucks in tics and there is NO WAY I can pay it!!!! *sighs....only 3 more weeks of school left, 6 weeks to graduation...

I don't think its just DC. There's property theft and vandalism in all major urban areas. Sorry you're having such a rough time of it, but DC does have some redeeming qualities.

I had a wonderful time visiting your city in Feb, but I have to say that it seemed D.C. has more of the urban problems that most other cities I've visited. We didn't even walk from the hotel to Union Station, less than a block away, without seeing a cop care or two whiz by with their sirens ablare every time we went, and I was at that hotel for 5 days. The farther I walked, the more cop cars I saw. I can honestly say that it was many more than I see in either my own city of San Diego or in the one I visit the most, San Francisco. And I agree about the boots. I saw dozens of them. Plus there was a cop car blocking the curb cut right in front of the Cannon House Building. What the **** was that? You'd think of all cities, DC's cops would be respecting that law. In front of a government installation no less. Yes, all cities have crime, but statistics bear out that DC has more of lots of types of it than other cities its size.

I agree. Parking tickets and boots were a problem in San Fran but, at least I never had my car broken into like I did in D.C. And I lived in San Fran a lot longer than I did D.C.

Sorry but, D.C. is the pits. The only place worse, IMHO, is N.Y.
