So, I was perusing the Americorps (it is like the domesticated Peace Corps) website and I came across a nurse position that is in Washington DC. It specifically is a nurse position; not someone who is interested in general healthcare, but a licensed nurse.
I have done Americorps before (a summer position) and it was a good experience. They typically offer a small living allowance--nothing you are going to be banking or "rolling in the dough", but enough to get by with/live off of (I guess if you live at home with parents in DC, then you can bank the money). They also give an education award. The amount depends on the term--year long/part time or full time/summer, etc.
It is just something to think about and consider.
