Questions about Children's National Medical Center

U.S.A. Washington DC

Hey! I live/work in Boston but I recently applied to Children's National Medical Center. I really want to work in pediatrics and have always wanted to get out of New England so I figured this was my chance! I am concerned though because I only have 6 months of experience in pediatric private duty nursing and still considered a new grad. I applied to a position (RN I/II) that did not require experience but I know they have a new grad program that I think already started (?) so I guess my questions are..

(1) Can I still be considered for the position without doing the new grad program?

(2) Those who have applied and received interviews, how long about did it take for them to contact you? I have to tell my landlord soon whether or not I want to stay and my boyfriend would need to start looking for jobs.

(3) Endorsement in general! It is expensive so I didn't want to apply until I had at least an interview, is this going to hurt my chances? I had planned on spending the extra to get a temporary license (as I heard it can take a while) if I ended up getting the job. Do those come fairly quickly?

Thanks and if you have any information in general about CNMC and/or relocation to DC I would love to hear it!

EDIT: I am even more nervous now, the position I applied to is no longer up! The status of my application says they are reviewing my application and if they are interested they will contact me.

Nevermind, I called today. HR said if the position has been taken down, it has been filled.

There are new grad programs that start this summer (July) the positions are filled anywhere from November until May prior to the program starting, depending on what unit you are interested in. You should keep checking for new posts. I'm a little confused as to why you would wait for an interview before applying? I would apply, apply, apply as its a pretty competitive program Your little bit of experience may give you an edge over other new grads

Also I am originally from Boston and I got my DC license WEEKS before my classmates got their Massachusetts one

Thanks for the reply! Do you work there? I actually just applied for three more positions today, so hopefully I will get a call! I am nervous though because I stupidly didn't edit my coverletter and it mentioned the unit I applied for last week.

I read on their site that the program ran in February and September, good to hear it's July! That actually would be perfect timing!

I am waiting to apply for DC licensure because it would cost me $310 and with this being the only hospital I am applying to I feel like it would be a huge waste of money if I didn't get the job. I know it would definetely help if I could say I had it already but I just can't justify the cost.

gotcha...I thought you said you would wait to apply for a job until you got an interview, I understand now. I do work there and I know the summer new grad program on my unit is starting the end of july and usually the hospital does a couple new grad groups at the same time, they did when I was a new grad anyways.

I'm pretty sure they won't worry about not having a license yet since the start time is so far off, I had a girl in my new grad group who hadn't taken the NCLEX yet but did within the first weeks of orientation so it all worked out

I got an interview! (I think) I got a call at 3p but I was at work so I couldn't talk. I asked her if I could call back and she said that would be fine, gave me her direct line and said she would be in the office until 6:30-7p or next week. Well at 4:30p I got an e-mail saying the whole 'thanks but thanks, we have filled the position' and my status online was the same. I called at 6:15p when I got out of work and left a message (I did not mention the e-mail) but I am so confused! I made it clear I was interested in setting up an interview and she seemed okay with me calling her back. Could the position have been filled that quickly?! I hope I get a call on Monday, if not I will be calling!

Thanks for your replies. I really appreciate having some insight! Did you think the new grad program was well done? It will be a huge move for me and my boyfriend (who is less than excited about moving) so I want it to be worth it!

I would call again Monday if you don't get a call, I got the same email the same day I talked with the manager of the unit I work in now, they might automatically send it to everyone, even the people they call

Thanks! I will definetely call tomorrow and it's reassuring to hear that you got the e-mail but still got the job!
