Applicants to GWU's ABSN 2011

U.S.A. Washington DC

Published

Hi! Just wanted to start another thread relating to GW's accelerated nursing program. Is anyone applying? They extended the deadline to March 1st and wondering if there weren't many applicants or they just allowed for more time? I'm sending mine in this weekend and am excited!

I just received my e-mail and got in!! i'm so excited! I'm still waiting on a few other schools but am pretty sure I will be going to GW in the fall!

I know I am getting ahead of myself but I was wondering where people usually live when going to this program. Can you live in DC or is it better to live closer to the Virginia campus!?

Congrats mll1202! Did you really just get the e-mail? You must be pretty excited. As for where to live, I think it will be wise to live close to Ashburn. It is a quite a bit drive from DC. With traffic it can be more than an hour. Go celebrate!

Congrats to all those who got accepted into the program. So exciting && I can't wait to meet you all at orientation! =) For those who are waiting, I'm crossing my fingers for you! =)

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to set up a FB page just to start meeting people and start connecting ... any interest? Especially as talks about commuting and living situations are coming up on here, just thought I'd ask. =)

Hey guys who got in,

If you dont mind sharing, what's your gpa/prereq gpa etc/undergrad school/major.

Thank you so much for the update and again.

I got in!! Very exciting!! I'm not completely sure if I will end up at GW yet, but I'm am THRILLED to have the option!

@dlrosen: I think an FB group is a great idea!

I haven't visited the campus yet, but I would really like to. Does anybody know if they're having an admitted student day?

Congrats all around and best of luck to those of you still awaiting a decision!!

AMM430!!! GREAT NEWS!!! Congrats...now the tough decision of where to go!

THANK YOU! It is going to be tough!! I'm worried about the commute from DC to Ashburn! It is a long way and the toll roads are EXPENSIVE! Other Washingtonians, what are your thoughts on the commute? Does anybody have a sense of how often we would be driving out there? I'm also curious about if we will have access to all of the Foggy Bottom Campus facilities (libraries, gyms etc.).

@dlrosen: I know you did a lot of research before you decided on GW, do you have any thoughts?

Congrats AMM430! I think a facebook page is a good idea!

Hello everyone!

I just discovered these threads...so helpful!

I just got into the GW ABSN, as well, and think a facebook group would be fantastic! I'm from California and am incredibly curious about the area, where to live, what parts of the program are on which campus, etc... I have friends who live in DC, but don't seem to know a lot about Ashburn.

Congrats to everyone who got in!

Me too dfarrington! I am absolutely clueless about all that and would love your guys' opinions...

Hi! dfarrington and louise08h! So Ashburn is pretty far away!! Definitely a 45 min to hour drive from DC! The Foggy Bottom campus is right in DC and the clinical sights will be all over the place I think!

I think whether you live in DC or somewhere in Virginia depends on what you want and where you are in your life! For me, I'm in my 20s, not married and still have a bunch of friends in the district!! I've lived and worked here for 4 years and I would not be able to give up living in the city. It's definitely going to be more expensive and possibly annoying to get to Ashburn, but I just love DC too much to leave :-)

Another alternative would be to live in the Northern Virginia area. NoVa (as it is known here) is metro accessible and depending on the location could save you 10 or so minutes on your commute (be careful though because depending on where you are it could probably add to your commute as well). People say that NoVa is cheaper, although for apartments/houses that are close to the metro it is generally about the same as housing in DC.

If you don't really care about Washington and you're just coming to DC just to kind of get through nursing school, I would say live closer to GW/Ashburn. It will certainly be cheaper once you get a little ways out of the city and will be a much more suburban lifestyle. Apparently it is really pretty in the Ashburn area...I think it gets kind of mountain-y out there and there are wineries and things too, I think. Ha, can you tell I don't leave DC much?

Hope this information is helpful!! I'm happy to help with any other questions!!

I would love a Facebook group, but I don't want to make it since I'm not 100% going to GWU!
