Hey yall...I am trying to organize a volunteer graduation trip for my ADN class for 1 yr from now. Im looking for a reputable organization to go with for 1 week to 10 days in Central/South America or the Caribbean for a reasonable price. We'd like to do some public health or rural clinic nursing. We'll be GN's, not yet having taken boards...anybody have good/bad experiences or info on something like this? I'm looking at a group called MEDICO that goes to Honduras...any advice...thanx!

I recently returned from a missionary trip from Guatemala. Next trip is February if you are interested. You can go to www.refugeinternational for details.

I had a wonderful experience been there twice. It cost $900. all expenses plus you get to work, I can tell you more if interested.

MEDICO is not too bad, and a good opportunity for GN's. They generally will not expose anyone to any extremely bad conditions, and the trip should be all smiles, while the students should learn a lot from seeing the life around them. In other words, just enough challenge for your group, and no bad stuff, most likely.

I have gone on a few trips to Latin America with some other groups- Feed the Children and also a Local United Methodist Church that goes each year in the summer. Problem is that most are Christian groups, this might or might not be a problem for you.

If you are interested, the group that goes to Panama each year, might be very happy to have you assist them. They do general medicine/public health in a rural setting. Some years, they do go to the inner city of Panama though and it is quite challenging there. Let me know if you are intersted and I can send you the email for the woman who organizes that trip. I have been there a few times and it was always a lot of fun, especially if you know Spanish!

I am interested in the trip to Panama., if I could get the info it will be appreciated. I have been on two previous trips to Guatemala. Thanks
