Hi Guys is anybody Has been hired as a registered nurse after volunteer?

Hi guys is volunteer help RN find the job specialy in LA Ca?

Yes, my manager will always choose to interview internal candidates and volunteers first when we do new grad interviews. The interview panel decides which candidates to hire. We have hired a volunteer for each of the last couple of new grad programs. What hospital and area do you volunteer at currently? Also, what unit are you interested in working?

Thanks for help, My paperwork is in process! It is Perspeterian hospital in Hollywood CA and I'm going to start next week, I have to choose the unit Maybe ICU or Med-Surg, What's your opinion from where to start so I can have enough knowledge for General? I'm not sure please give me a suggestion! Thank U!

Specializes in CCM, PHN.

It is important to start with good writing and grammar skills. For example, you might want to make sure you can correctly spell the name of the place for which you volunteer. Understand how important correct, clearly written communication is in nursing.

Thanks ))) At least I can speak and write in English ))) my friend Who works in hospital she said they got a lot of complaints From patients and patients families, Because of the hospital has a Many nurses Who can't speak and write in English, And I am very surprised how Hospital can have these kind of nurses )))

Where you start depends on which unit is offering you a job versus your areas of interest. I worked med-surg-tele for 18 months prior to transferring to ICU, but that was because they didn't hire new grads straight into ICU back then. You are lucky that it has changed since then. I have trained new grads, floor nurses, and ER nurses into the ICU. I've discovered it just depends on the person and less so the experience or background. It can be done either way; it's preference and opportunity now. Oh, by the way...Hollywood Pres... brush up on your Spanish!

I am nut lucky because I have ASN and they don't except ASN, has to be BSN ((( so I am just going to volunteer ! Then I will pray to get job )))

Have you applied other places in SoCal? Unfortunately, the job market's is very tight right now here. Most hospitals want BSN especially if they are a Magnet facility because they need a certain percentage of BSN or higher for their magnet status. Some of the lesser known hospitals have new grad programs. You could start there with your ADN; get experience then transfer into your preferred unit or get a job at a different hospital. Volunteering is still a good idea; gets your face out there.
