Hello everyone! Accepted to New Horizons Regional Education Center and classes start Sept. 2008.:yeah: Has anyone gone through this 18-month LPN program? If so, how was it? They have day and night class. I'm enrolled in the evening class 530-10pm Mon-Thurs. Traveling from the Beach to Hampton is going to be tough with the traffic:eek:. Gotta go to my part-time now.

Thanks,

Stephanie:chuckle

I'm haven't applied to New Horizons but I have applied to the Va Beach Practical Nursing program (the Va Beach equivalent to the Hampton program I suppose). Just wanted to tell you congrats! I'm still waiting to hear about the entrance test schedule for my program. I received a little flyer in the mail thanking me for my interest in the program and telling me that I would receive more info about the testing schedule. That was a little over a month ago so I'm getting antsy! Congrats again! Hopefully I'll be in the countdown to Sept '08 soon!

BTW, I considered applying to the Riverside program supported by the Newport News school system but I was torn about the commute. Shoot, I should've applied... I technically have until March 31st to send in the application but I'm afraid I already have too many people ahead of me to be considered and I don't know anyone in the area to send in the reference forms by the deadline. Ugh, so much for procrastinating!

Thanks JenniferR! I've been waiting so long to get back to school. "Don't put off what you can do today". It's almost like a job looking for schools. First, you call to find out more information. Then, you wait for the information to come. Time consuming to set up test dates, then applying. GEEEEZZZZ. Being that you're husband is military you do have to act fast. How far do you want to commute? Trust me, I do not want to do the drive to Hampton but my choices were quickly narrowing down. But you hand in there and try to figure out were you wanna go and how much you are willing to spend. $24,000 is totally out of the questio for me at this point. My tuition is paid in full by Sentara and all I have to do is show up and pass.

Good luck to you!

Stephanie

Has anyone every heard of New Horizons Regional Education Center Practical Nurse Program? :nurse:They are located in Hampton,VA. I'm interested to find out if someone has already been through this program and what the program was like. Just looking for a few details. Thanks in advanced.

Thanks!

Steph:wink2:

Hey Steph.

I just recently graduated from New Horizons. I was in the evening class. My overall experience was so-so. You definitely have to do a lot of learning on your own. The teachers pretty much just lecture. Me and my fellow classmates complained about the same thing, not enough clinical experience. We spent the majority of the time at Sentara ltc and rehab. I'm not sure who the teachers are for your first year beacuse they changed when I was there but get close to Mrs.Smith. She's a clinical instructor...she taught me a lot. Any other questions feel free to ask! Good luck!

Thanks Holly! Man...I've been waiting for someone to answer my thread. I think overall you might have to learn some things on your own but not all. I have to admit your response has made me :icon_rollthink but I've waited so long that I'm willing to be that "self starter" if need be. I want the clinical experience and that's my issue. Anyway no turrning back now. I very proud of you for completing school.:yeah: So you said get close to Mrs. Smith, huh? Okay... I hope I can call on you for help sometime. By the way, you know I'm taking the evening class too. PM if you get a chance. We gotta talk!

By the way.....were did you decide to work?

:nurse:Stephanie

Hey Stephanie!

I'm having the hardest time trying to PM you...I'm obviosuly missing something. Hah.

So you're already a CNA, you'll do great! Seriously, no worries. My friend in class was already an MA and she amazed me. I on the other hand had no clinical experience going into nursing school, I was a nervous wreck. But I hung in there and ended up doing well. The first week you're there you pretty much just get to know everyone...

I do have a tip. Buy a Saunders NCLEX review book now. Nobody told me this and I waited till the end of the second year to get it. It would have been a huge help if I got it earlier.

Hey Holly! :loveya:Just click on my name in a previous post and you can see my profile. Then it will say "Send a Private Message". It took me a minute to figure it out too. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm gonna need it. I will pick up the NCLEX-Saunders book next week and start to review. I'm soooo excited:yeah:I can hardly wait. My husband and kids are gonna be soo proud of me when I complete the program and watch me walk the stage. Where was your graduation? Did you have cap and gown or your uniforms? So many questions I wanna ask you. Well I'm still at work and I'm going to my part time in an 1hr.

Talk with you later. PM real soon.:)

:nurse:Stephanie

I think you have to atleast post 15 times before you can PM? Ah. It's really annoying cause I'm pretty computer savvy...

Graduation was at Heritage High. We got to do the capping and you had the choice between wearing the dress or the pants and button down shirt. I wore the dress because it's tradition. :) I'll just give you my email...

[email protected] Talk to you later!

I haven't attended New Horizons, but I do want to go to school there. I take the entrance exam tomorrow. Wish me luck! :D

GOOD LUCK NAPPYNVA!! The test was pretty easy considering other entrance test at other schools. It did get a little hard towards the end. But you will do fine. Wow today is the last day to take the test. Just in a nick of time.

I hope to see you in class in 3 1/2 weeks!:wink2:
