VA nursing license fees going up...

  1. 0 I don't know how many people are aware of this, but when my co-worker forgot to renew her license, she called the Board of Nursing and they told her that license fees are going up again to pay for "delinquency fees". Does anyone know if this is true or not?

Special Announcement - Increase in RN and LPN fees
The Board of Nursing announces that effective July 15, 2003, renewal and application fees for RN's and LPN's will be increased. Emergency action was taken to provide the additional revenue needed for an anticipated increase in investigations and disciplinary proceedings. Legislation passed by the 2003 General Assembly changed the reporting requirements for health care institutions, and that will likely result in a larger number of disciplinary cases for the board.

The Board has also issued a Notice of Intended Regulatory Action to replace the emergency regulations and consider the additional fee increase that may be necessary to offset a loss of revenue when Virginia joins the Nurse Licensure Compact in January, 2005.

Biennial renewal fees for RN's and LPN's are increased from $70 to $82 beginning with August renewals; the late fee after the expiration date is increased from $25 to $30. An application fee for initial licensure is increased from $105 to $117. To reinstate a license that has been lapsed for more than two years, the application fee is increased from $120 to $132, and to reinstate a license after suspension or revocation, the application fee is increased from $160 to $172.
