Hello :) THIS IS A BRAND NEW THREAD for TCC's up and coming classes in January and March, 2013.

I am starting this thread to help me get through the waiting game. I just finished my HESI yesterday, and turned in my application today. Now the LONG wait begins. I would like to get into the Jan or Mar cohorts. Does anyone know when they actually begin?

I was surprised to have chemistry on the HESI--because it isn't required for the program. My scores were good though...all within the 92-100 range. It took me FOREVER to do the test. 223 minutes!

How about everyone else? What did you think of the HESI?

Angela

Virgolove34, If they dont call me back for March 11 start date then yes i am .....

For those that started in January, do you guys get out at 230 everyday or is it later some days? What is tunnel traffic like at 230 in the afternoon headed toward Norfolk/Va Beach? TIA :)

We are out by 2:30 or earlier everyday. I don't take the tunnel---no idea. :)

If anyone needs small uniform shirts, I have two.

Hey Abacrumbie,

What book did you use for Pharmacology? Any suggestions for the rest of us?

Thanks

Thanks Ski Utah!! Another question.....I just got all of my books, what are the 1st couple chapters u covered? Wanted to get a head start if possible :)

What is everyone using for a bookbag with all of these book we have? !?!? Suggestions?

Hi, I'm new here and have a question for you all. First off, congratulations to everyone who's one step closer to fulfilling their nursing dreams :-) I graduated with a business degree in 2011 and am looking to make a career switch into nursing. I'm missing a few of the general education requirements for TCC's program (science ones mostly), but based on the program sample plan in here (http://www.tcc.edu/academics/divisions/healthprofessions/nursing/documents/nursingadmissioninfo.pdf) it looks like you can take them as part of the five semesters. For example, on the sample plan it has BIO 150 as one of the courses for semester 4; however, it looks like you all are calling these gen ed classes prerequisites. Does this mean I can't or won't get accepted into the program if I haven't completed the gen ed courses? Thank you so much and congratulations again!

As long as nothing has changed, you have to have two of the three sciences completed before applying, but most people have all their sciences, prerequisites an co-requisites completed before applying. It puts you in a better position in getting accepted.

Thank you virgolove34, I really appreciate the response. One more question - do you know if there is an alternative to attending the information session? I won't actually be moving to Virginia until after the deadline, so I'm not sure how out-of-state applicants meet this application requirement. I'm also hoping I am going to be able to take the HESI at a location near me as opposed to taking it at one of the TCC campuses. Thank you again!

You rarely need your textbook. Towards the end they will ask you to bring your Taber's and the nursing care plan book to clinical. A normal backpack is all you'll need.

Here is some advice...

Read first and stay AHEAD of the reading. It is too much. You can go ahead and read the first chapter now...I know that is on the syllabus.

Study from your notes mainly but be sure to read the chapters.

Go with any stethoscope, but don't spend too much. It has to have a bell. We all MOSTLY have the Littman II.

I don't know what size you are but I have two small shirts available if you are interested. Try to get the Dove pants, as it is required by some clinical instructors. Get them now so you have a chance of having them fit, come in on time, and you can hem them. Also get the bag of stuff required for Nursing 108. It is available at the bookstore as a kit #1, make sure it is all there. Get a washable watch with a second hand. I got mine at Target. It's white, with colored numbers which helps when counting.

Enjoy!

You will need to have as many of the prerequisites as you can to be competitive. The required ones are English, A&P, and chemistry or micro. There are others that are supposed to be completed as well, but are not required to start the program such as PHI. You need your CPR certification before school starts.

As far as the information session, I would call. I don't think they REALLY keep track of that if you want to know the truth. I did mine 2 years before I applied, and I SERIOUSLY doubt they have proof of my attendance.

The most important thing is the prerequisites, and the Hesi A pre-nursing exam. If you score well on those, they will admit you. The trick is they must be complete before you apply.

Good luck!
