RN Jobs: INOVA Fairfax Hospital

  1. 0
    Hey all,

Wondering if anyone can offer me insight about the INOVA Fairfax Hospital. I am a new grad and I am interested in working there but I have a few questions. I'll appreciate any information you can offer.

    1. Do new grads have to sign a contract? If so, what is the general length of time?
    2. What is the RN salary? (now in 2010 with the recession)
    3. What is the work environment like in terms of nurse-patient ratios?
    4. And is the training good in your opinion?
    5. What unit would be the best to work at?

    Thanks in advance

Not sure that Inova is hiring new grads right now. Did you actually see an open RN 1 position, or have you spoken with a recruiter? It would be nice to see them hiring! In any case, new grads started at $25/hr plus shift differential two years ago. Not sure what the rate is now; it could be the same for all I know!

I work at Fairfax. Right now they are really trying to avoid hiring new grads. The department I work in, and our 4-5 "sister" units are not hiring any new grads at all right now. Many units are no longer staffing a new grad nurse educator. I'm sorry to be so dismal, but I think chances of getting in at Fairfax are grim. Unless you know someone, worked their as an intern, etc, you're better off looking elsewhere.

I don't know where you live, or if DC is within your commuting distance, but Sibley just posted 2 new grad positions (ortho and med/ surg), if you're still looking for a job. WHC still has their residency program on their job listings, but I don't know if they've already filled all of their positions or not.

Inova is hiring I am going through the new grad fellowship right now with at least 25 new grad nurses

Yep, we have a new grad/RN 1 orienting in our ED right now. I believe the new grad hiring is finished for now, though -- and they've combined a lot of the fellowships into one, as I understand it, where they used to be completely separate (i.e., ER, ICU, OR, etc.). I think each specialty area will eventually break out into its own section.

@Misyhun: congrats! that's awesome...I've been looking/talking to a couple nurse recruiters but haven't heard anything back. I'm really frustrated with this job situation. I feel like I'm loosing my skills being out of practice for so long. Do you mind sharing how you went about it? I mean did you apply online or talk to recruiters or attend any job fairs/events to get the position? What unit did you get hired for? Oh, isn't the new-grad contract for 18 months? you can private message me if you prefer.

Thanks alot in advance.... would love to hear from you.

The process is explained here: How to Apply - Inova Health System

You basically have to apply and be hired by Inova to attend a fellowship.
