Richmond - JTCC vs. Bon Secours

U.S.A. Virginia

I would like to begin nursing school ASAP. I am really having a difficult time deciding between the ADN at John Tyler CC or the Diploma program at Bon Secours School of Nursing. Each program seems to have pros and cons. I definitely need one that is flexible - I will need to do this at night as I stay at home with my girls during the day. Any suggestions?

I am applying to Bon Secours. I have talked to someone who went there as well as her husband and they both raved about the program. You can take all of your classes in the evenings. I am planning on going to classes at night while I stay at home with my daughter during the day as well! What a small world!

I just started this week in JTCC's program and I absolutely LOVE it. I adore my instructors, and my classmates are the awesomest. My least favorite part though, is the yucky ciel blue tops we wear for clinical.

I chose JTCC for a couple reasons. Firstly, it's closer to me. Also, it'll be quicker than Bon Secours because I'd already finished most of the prereqs when I decided to apply. JTCC also did away with their waitlist, which is so nice. You get ranked by GPA now, this semester nobody got in with less than a 3.5.

If you haven't had any college yet, it'd probably be quicker to finish out the Bon Secours program. Most people I know applied to Bon Secours, JTCC AND Southside Regional after they'd finished A&P, and just went wherever they got accepted first.

I'm currently going to Bon Secours and absolutely LOVE it! The instructors are AWESOME and they are very hands on and encourage each and every one of us to go to them with any problems, questions, or concerns we might have. I was afraid that we would have crotchety old nursing instructors that wouldn't help us at all, and I was very pleasantly surprised. :) I also applied to another nursing school in Richmond (won't name which one) and it darn near took an act of congress just to get anybody in the nursing program on the phone. I would leave messages and voice mail and I would never hear back from anybody. It was the biggest cluster you know what I've ever seen. :uhoh21: I thank God every day that I didn't end up going there. :p When I email or leave voice mail for any of my instructors I hear back from them within an hour or two. Most of the time they answer their phone when I call!! Imagine that!! :chuckle

I go to classes during the day, but I know they have night and weekend classes. You can also go part time if you'd like but the program must be finished within 6 years. I bet you can handle that. ;)

Good luck no matter which school you attend!
