Hello everyone I am in NY and planning on relocating to Virginina Beach within the next 3 months. I come from a big teaching hospital in NY and I wanted to know what hospitals in the Virginina Beach area would offfer a similar working environment for myself. I am currently a staff nurse in the Emergency Room and I have worked in Mother/Baby including Newborn Nursery. I found information on Sentara and Bon Secours. Does anyone know anything about the two healthcare facilities? I am looking to attend Graduate School in August/September of this year at Old Dominion and want to make sure I get a good job with a good salary including good tuition reimbursment. I also made contact with a nurse who gave me some information on correctional/prison nursing. Does anyone know anything about this, including the salary? I know I have alot of questions, but I have to make sure I cover everything. One last question, there are a million nursing agencies here in NY, does anyone know a really good agency where you can pick up extra shifts at a good hourly rate? Thank you and I apologize for all the questions.

renerian - Mar 5, '04 by kimmicoobugSo much to do in Virginia, as I grew up in that area. Thought a few times of relocating to VA, as well.
- Mar 5, '04 by NurseRatchet26Hi there! Welcome to Virginia. I live in Va Beach also. You are going to like the weather so much more here. (other than the occasional hurricane scare). winters are so mild. If it snows 2 inches everything shuts down, its funny. If you want to check out pay and such, check out these sites:
http://www.sentara.com/employment/
I did my LPN clinicals at Sentara Norfolk, I liked it there. When I get my RN I may seek employment there myself. There is also Childrens hospital Right next to it, they actually have a connecting corridor.
http://www.chkd.org/job_opp/job_or.asp
That is their site if you are at all interested in PEDS.
For job and General info on the area, go to
www.hamptonroads.com
www.pilotonline.com (the local newspaper lists a lot of jobs, a lot of agencies post with them)
Hope this helps. If you have any more questions just ask. - Mar 10, '04 by dazedandconfusedI loved living in Va Beach. The salary was not great , but cost of living was lower. I moved back to Northern Va to be near family, but would go back in a heart beat. As Tammy hinted Sentara is the big healthcare provider with connection to EVMS and CHKD. Trauma 1 is Norfolk General with Va Beach General a level 2. Just really depends where you want to live and if you want to drive at which hospital to choose. Good Luck.
- Apr 10, '04 by FLOBRNI have just been offered a position at Va Beach Gnrl....$23.04/hr for L&D. Have 20 years experience. Is this good, bad or indifferent?
Thanks - May 29, '04 by MCO NurseI just wanted to add the link for Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Good luck!!
