Questions about Riverside School of Nursing.

Hello! I have a few questions about Riverside's nursing program. I have completed the minimum 10 pre-reqs to apply but I have not had high school or college Chemistry. Will Riverside accept a developmental chemistry course? It says that you must pass chemistry with at lease a "C" but the developmental courses are Pass/Fail? Also, does anyone know how quickly the classes fill up and how many spots are available? I will be applying in May for the January 2011 evening/weekend program. How quickly would I receive a response after I submit my application? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I am starting Riverside program in Jan 2011. I believe that you indeed need to take a college level chemistry. That was the last I had to do and just finnished the exam yesterday!!! Apply as soon as you can. It is a rolling application and admission. As soon as you get scheduled for Chemistry and have all of app filled out (beside the chemistry) I would go down and apply. They get back to you rather quickly. I wasn't even finnished with you pre reqs and still got accepted on a conditional basis. Riverside is a great school and I am looking forward to it!!! Anymore questions please just let me know!!:smokin:

Taandoh,

Thank you for your response. I spoke with someone in admissions and she said I could apply once I finished my chemistry class in May. I understand that you must finish your remaining pre-reqs before starting nursing school but did you apply before finishing the chemistry course? I thought the chemistry class and 10 pre-reqs must be completed before they will look at your application? I'm kicking myself for not finishing the chemistry class sooner. I'm really worried that I won't get the applicaiton in soon enough. :o Please let me know. Thanks!

I'm starting next month in the eve\weekend program. You can apply before you have finished all your pre-reqs, and they will grant you a conditional acceptance if they decide in your favor. They do not usually run a waiting list from what have heard and I finished up my application in October for the January class. You will have to take and pass the TEAS test as part of the application process. As for what qualifies as a satisfactory Pre-req, you will have to talk to the registrar there for a definitive answer.

I am also looking to apply in May for the Jan 2011 class. When you talked to the admissions office did they say that Chem 1 would satisfy the Chem requirement? I believe that is considered high school chem and although it is a pass/fail course in order to pass you must receive a 70% © or higher.

What chem are you taking? I am taking a Saturday class in Chesapeake.

Good luck!!!

Hi! Yes, I spoke with a rep in admissions and she said Chm 1 would cover the Chemistry requirement. I will be taking Dev. Chm on Thursday evenings at TNCC in Hampton. Are you applying for the day or evening schedule? I'm torn, I like the idea of working while in school but I also like the idea of finishing in two years instead of three. I figure it out eventually. :D Good luck!!!

Thanks so much for responding. :) I am going to have to apply to the evening/weekend program. As much as I would love to quit my job and go to the day program I just can't. I am praying I can get into the Jan 2011 program.

My email address is (email removed per website TOS) if you want to stay in contact. Maybe we can help each other out in Chem too.

Katie,

Your email address did not post but feel free to send a PM. I think I will attend the evening and weekend program. I cannot quit my job and I like the idea continuing to bring in some income. Will you be applying when classes finish in May? I'm very nervous about the TEAS test. I bought the Kaplan study guide and will be ordering the ATI study guide in the coming weeks. I would love to keep in contact; it would be great to get to know a fellow classmate before entering the program. Oh, and I have never taken a Chemistry course and could use all the help I can get. :yeah:

Have you considered entering their LPN program and then doing their LPN to RN bridge? It ends up being the same amount of time, and you could get ahead of the game by starting in the April 2010 or September 2010 class. I graduate from their LPN in two months... I feel better prepared to step into the RN program, AND I can work while I do it. If you work for a Riverside facility (and there are TONS), they will pay for the RN bridge... just something to consider.

Do you work for Riverside while you are in their LPN program?

I don't work... my husband is a Marine pilot, currently deployed to Afghanistan, so I go to school and take care of our little one. The classes are Mon-Fri 730-300. If I worked, I'd never see my child, and this deployment has been really hard on him. With that being said, there are several girls in class that do work for Riverside, and they are really supportive of their education--as far as flexibility with scheduling, studying during downtime, etc. One works in ER, one in Behavioral Health, two at Rehab, and one in Cardiology...

Sorry! I just remembered that the evening program starts in June 2010, not April. It's 18 months, and then you do a short bridge, followed by the last two semesters of the RN program. 3 years total... There is an LPN that went through Riverside that works in med/surg--she started working for them after she got her license, and did the bridge program concurrently. She just graduated and tests for her RN next week... So, dependent upon which route you want to go... I can't speak for the evening program, but the day program is fast-paced. It says it is a 12 month program, but in all actuality it's about 9 1/2. We started the last week of April 09, had the entire month of August off, back Sept to Nov for second term. Winter break the entire month of Dec, back Jan to Mar 17. Start preceptorship, and graduate April 2nd.

If there is any way that you can work in the evenings and go to school during the day, it is absolutely worth it! It flies by...
