I recently graduated from a Diploma program and passed state boards in June. I'm currently working as a RN at a hospital that is local to me, but I'm planning to move to the Norfolk, VA beach, Chesapeake area in January. I was wondering how much luck I'll have getting a job with about 6 months experience, that has worked on an orthopedic floor, and has a diploma and not a bachelors degree? Any reply is very much appreciated. Thanks!

The Hampton Roads area has had a few major diploma schools of nursing -- even in recent years. 15 years ago, there were 4 -- and that was long after most diploma schools in the country had either closed or switched to either ADN or BSN programs. In the last few years, 3 of those programs have closed or converted. But there is still 1 left.
But ... their graduates are still all over the place. So, it is a region of the country where diploma grads are still numerous. While some hospitals show a definite preference for BSN's these days, that trend is a little less pronounced in Hampton Roads than it is in some other areas of the country. So you can expect to find some difficulty ... but not as much as in some regions.
