Im moving to lynchburg VA

I am a new grad licensed since 3/12. I worked as a developmental disable residential nurse for 6 months, home health care presently and a school nurse currently. I want to work as med surg nurse in Virginia do you think i have a better chance there because im in NY and its hard.

You might. I am on the state line between TN and VA (I live in VA). I know Centra hires new grads, but have you considered east TN as well? They hire for med surg as well. Is there a certain allure/reason for Lynchburg?

My cousin lives there and it is a nice are to live in and never thought of TN. Thank you for the advice.

Lynchburg has two hospitals owned by Centra. While they do hire new grads, there are also five pipelines for nursing schools in that town (Lynchburg College, Liberty University, Central Va Comm College, as well as both the diploma and BSN programs from Lynchburg General Hospital). My guess is that there is likely 250+ new RNs graduating in that town this year --- much more than those two hospitals could accommodate.

It is a lovely area. You might want to look at Roanoke or Salem (40 miles away) as well.

Check out UVA as well, they hire new grads all the time although it will be at least an hour drive

Just wanted to make a slight correction: May of 2013 will be the last graduating diploma class from LGH. Centra College of Nursing is an ADN program and the community college does not have a separate class, the ADN students simply take their general ed courses there. But there will still be a LOT of new grads (Around 60 from LGH, 20 ADNs from Centra plus the grads from LC and LU).
