Fortis College

U.S.A. Virginia

Has anyone looked into or attended Fortis College? They have several Virginia locations, including one here in Richmond. I've never heard of them, but just saw a commercial on TV and was looking into it. Their website doesn't have much info, so I was hoping someone here would know something about them.

good luck with your decision. My school rep helped me out. also, we start taking hesi tests and they have "success classes" to help you get good at taking them so by the time we graduate and have to take it as our exit exam, you'll be good to go. they say that those who do well in hesi tests are most likely to pass the NCLEX. let me know if you have any questions or go! maybe i'll see you there :)

Hi Nccatim i was just wondering how the lpn program at Fortis is going for you. I am suppose to start in Nov. I am extremely excited. If you have any pointers or anything that you would like to share that would be great. I have everything done i am just waiting to see if i can get a little more financial assistance with my hubbys post 911 gibill. I really didn't want to take out stanford loans for the lpn program if i could get money else where. Did you get anything before school started a letter a call your supplies or did you get everything the first day of school. I am just so anxious, i kind of feel like i haven't been in contact enough lately with the school, i tell myself like what do i do next just keep waiting. write back when you have the time or anyone else who is attending Fortis College Norfolk please feel free to reply. Thanks

Does anybody know how long the lpn to rn program is? i know someone said just for rn it was 15-18 months, and lpn was 15 months... so i would hope that means lpn to rn is SHORT lol

hey jmartinez, Fortis college has changed with the DON switch since I started. I'm hoping that it's because of the high turnover rate that our class had it rough. However, I doubt it. the new one is not the most helpful/compassionate/nice/professional. i would have notebooks, binders, whichever you prefer for study utensils. Also, we got our nclex study books really late so you might want to get the blue kaplan book. unfortunately, pretty much ALL my GREAT instructors have left so I can't assure you will have good instructors. I wish i had better information for you :(. i just graduated yesterday and I'm very glad i left. But it is similar to MCI and lpn is 15 months...lpn to adn is 16 months. hope this helps and good luck with the classes! if you want anymore info let me know~!

So I am currently getting ready to go to Fortis college in cincy ohio for the lpn program then pn to rn program and they say the tuition is 23,000 for lpn ...i worked for 7.50 a hr full time then partime last year and this year i have mostly been unemployed besides working minimum wage 7.25 -union fees and im 21 22 in oct and live with my mom who only gets about 1,000 from my dad in alimony, my mother andi moved back in my dads house when he left he kept his adress when i changed mine to that adress though he did not live with us so i just changed it back to my grandmas in hopes it wont affect my financial aid rewards bc he works at GKN and makes pretty decent i guess...hardly enough to get by on but "enough" according to the government but i dont even talk to my dad.Hes not really in my life since i was like 13.Anyways i calculated my EFC and it says total estimated FM Contribution= $2,597 and Total Estimated IM Contribution = 1 I do not know what this means can someone please explain? I'd really appreciate it but i really want to get in nursing school im studying for my HESI right now but I asked the financial aid there if i needed to take out both un and subsuidized loans and they told me yes of course but given i dont really have any credit right now i have absolutely no one to co sign in my family for me (besides my parents all i have is a grandmother whoes living off of barely 1,000 a month) I have to go without food sometimes,ok alot, and switched to a prepaid phone that i dont even put money on now, with my insurance and stuff i dont even hardly make enough to..live and my mom or family cant even help me survive hardly bc my mom goes without food or the basics too,we are lucky my dad left this house for us sometimes we dont have electric and stuff bc with allimony she can hardly swing the house payment and cant find work yet i know fortis said sometimes in financial aid they package it to where the student is left owing and has to begin making payments immediatly but im wondering if anyone knows if i can indeed differ those because of my situation until after graduation which she said theyd try to work with me...but i couldnt even pay them a dollar a month given what i make.Im just getting really disheartend and i feel like crying because I have no other options. Im upset if they go by a mans income i hardly even know just because he knocked up my mother almost 22 years ago thats not my fault. he fled the scene hes not apart of my life so why is fasfa determined to force him to be atleast financially. its heartbreaking bc thats not right.i couldnt even afford therapy and they are throwing this guy and his money in my face, last i heard he got demoted and is struggling but still makes 100000 x more than me. I need advice, and prayer please I really need to get through the program and I need all the help i can get and idk what to do :( AND if i can indeed differ my payment has anyone gotten a good job with fortis?Bc i know they say they do not guarantee one but I really dont wanna even start the process if i cant pay this back.I'll get suicidal. Its enough to drive anyone over the edge.Theyd have to live with that like they even would care they just want the money, but if anyone could give me good advice id really appreciate it. I took stna training in highschool but never tested over 3 years ago. so i cant even work as that yet =/ and i dont wanna go to school for that when i can just do nursing i want this so bad someone helppp :( thankyou. Godbless.

Jessica, I'd suggest going to a community college and taking a cna class. I moved to Indianapolis from cincy. Ivy tech costs a fraction of what fortis costs. The cna course is 5 credit hours; take an additional 1 credit hour course and you will be elgible for financial aid. Since ivy tech is so cheap, if you take out both sub and unsub loans, you will get at least 3,500 dollars back as a refund. This will help you survive financially until well after the 2 month cna course. Then, you can find a cna job making 9-13 dollars an hour. You'll probably even find an employer offering tuition reimbursement- to help you pay your way through nursing school. It will be more competitive to get into a nursing program at a community college, but you will always get a decent refund check- which is necessary to buy supplies, pay bills, pay for gas, and whatever car repair bills come your way. I had to end up going to the plasma bank to pay for gas during my last semester of school. Anyhow, I'm just saying that going to a cheaper school and doing the cna 1st will at least give you a chance of achieving you dreams. I personally know that no matter what other people say, you can't always achieve everything that you put your mind to if you don't have the money or the right people helping you. I hope that you get this and that things start to go your way. You seemed very stressed, and I hope that you don't do anything foolish. Write back if you need any more advice, or help, or just someone to talk to. Take care.

yes they are a college, are they accredited? NO!! that's the only problem that you run into. when u go back for your BSN or MSN, then a college can take you but they don't have to accept any of your classes which means you will probably have to start from scratch. I learned from experience. I am an LPN and I went to RSHT in richmond, va and now I am in RN school and I had to retake all my anatomies and everything! just be careful and make sure that if you go there you get a copy of their curriculum and contact schools that you would like to attend for your BSN and see what they will and will not accept. The reason I say this is because soon enough you will have to have a BSN to practice as a nurse. When this will pass noone knows but just to be prepared. Just really be careful with technical schools, they are very costly, you don't get a great education, just enough to get you through school and make sure you check their Pass rates for the boards!!! good luck!!!! I would recommend like southside regional school of nursing or John tyler or J. Sarge!!!

Just stay away from Fortis, the one in Tampa, Florida. They are disorganized, Have chased away 3 deans in the last 2 years,. They lie and cheat the students and half the time the faculty don't show up for class.

They are also not accredited by any nursing accreditation organization. They will tell you they are accredited the college but what matters is program accreditation when you go on to your higher degrees.

Be careful

Hi, Im suppose to start at Fortis in Norfolk in June, but Im having second thoughts about it. Did you have any problems with the test? What is the Hesi exam like? I hear that if you are not already an LPN then you cant get into the program. Is this true? I have an associates in MA, but nothing in LPN.

hi, I see that you were starting fortis in june, I am currently looking into signing up for october classes for the practical nursing program, so once I am completed with it I can use it to complete the bridge program to an RN. If you have any input on fortis I would love to hear about it. Thank you!!
